I found a pretty cool website called hotbar.com I wanted to download their product but want to make sure it isn't some sort of parasite. Anyone know how to test this out?

NO DON'T!!! Parasite...hard as all get out to get off your computer. Apparently will reinstall itself.

Do a search here at abw for hotbar before installing. I'm still trying to get it off my sister's computer

I wouldn't have warned him Ms B ....your too nice while I'd believe only going through the rigors of removal would cure the curious and those thinking hotbar is a neat weapon for affiliates.

It must have been that made him do it

But seriously, I used to enjoy surfing around and digging from one site to the next, but with so many drive-by's and parasite wannabe's out there I rarely go anywhere but long established spots and even some of them become unusable over time when they do the Gator, WhenU type thing thinking they're making a few cents...

If it's just pictures you want on IE toolbar, try this from MS...

I just came here today to ask if Hotbar was Parasiteware as I'm seeing that an alarming number of my visitors have it installed.

I recently had an argument wiht Kanoodle about it. They swore that it is not scumware and is not hijacking my commissions when I told them I wasn't going to add money to my account becasue all the referrals were from Hotbar and I saw no point in paying for clicks when my commission was only going to be stolen anyway.

So does Hotbar steal commissions or not?

Not sure if it is stealing commissions are not. It's been awhile since I've seen exactly what it is doing for myself since it is so much more aggressive about keeping itself on your computer.

My impressions have been that is mainly playing the PPCSE games....worthless traffic you are paying knoodle and other PPSCE who feed hotbar. Their users are very limited in what they get and can go when searching.

Duh! All BHO's by design are programmed to generate commissions and fees for their owners. Hotbar owners are unethical opportunists seeking to tap into the 3rd world PPCSE's keyword pot just like Gator and WhenU do for Findwhat and Overture. The damn open backdoor they plant is for additions thefwarez applications to secretly get put on their kidnapped clients machines.

By commission stealling I meant direct overwrite of cookies with redirects.

I quit using Kanoodle several months ago because
90% of my traffic from them was from Hotbar.
This traffic was worthless with a terrible ROI.
If you use Kanoodle, you really need to watch
your popular keywords, Hotbar will eat up your
money in a hurry. I haven't used them for a few
months now, so can't say if they are still
currently using them or not, just watch where
    your traffic is coming from.

Well, it sounds like Google Adwords is the only one worth using then.

I am so sick and tired of having to worry about things like this. These scumware people should be lined up and shot.

So, does anybody know if hotbar over-writes cookies? I have noticed about 5% of visitors seem to have it installed. THat is A LOT!

By the way, I dropped findwhat a couple of months ago because it seemed like 90% of the visitors hat hotbar installed. I have save at least 2 thousand dollars since then and have seen absolutely NO DECLINE in sales. This tells me that hotbar users are USELESS, or at least FINDWHAT IS USELESS.

anyway, does Hotbar over-write commission cookies, etc?

Hotbar and Huntbar are duel culprets. Once side drains PPCSE accounts on a split fee basis (bangs both the merchant and the affiliate),while the other side plants their own affiliate cookies if the keyword listing is for an affiliate enabled merchant. Be interesting to see if their BHO plants cookies on direct URL type-ins.

Huntbar was recently featured as one of Amazon's Associates "Movers and Shakers."
