Ummm, just checked 2 of my urls that I have reserved at dotster, but have yet to develop. On both occasions, dotster popped gator up.

Personally, I have never understood WHY hosting companies are allowed to advertise on a url I reserved without paying me for the privilege, but I certainly do not feel they have the right to pop Gator/Gain on a url that I reserved.

Anyone else have urls reserved there that they can check?

It's not that I am losing money - as I have not even developed the sites yet - but it's the idea that my url is popping those damn ads on anyone who types in the url directly. It just makes me ill. I do not want my urls associated with companies like that.

I don't have domains with Dotster so I wouldn't know.
Popping Gator on your reserved domains is a very bad thing indeed. Is that the only advertiser Dotster has? If so, they are in bad shape...

If you have a dedicated server, you can park them there until you develop them.

Wow, you got it right....Gator popup....I only have a few domains registered with them, but they will be gone as soon as I replenish my Enom account.

Thanks for noticing, since I just have these registered, but not doing anything, I never actually went to the sites.

    Thanks for the heads-up.

I've just started a suitable thread on a domain board that Dotster read, so hopefully they'll get the message.

Others like me who have clients using Dotster should write their CJ affiliate manager and complain. I sure gave him a subtile hint to whack their gator partnership. Wonder if someone at CJ marketing shoe horned them into a Gator lead fee partnership?

Every domain registered with Dotster so far this year and hosted elsewhere has received SPAM mailings from offertoday.net hosting on the contact email used at signup!!!
    Not impressed.

Enough affiliates complain and demand the pull down Gator installs they will be forced to do it. They get the majority of targeted traffic from affiliates.

Just checked and they are still popping on my urls. What comes up is a a small window entitled "Notification - Microsoft Internet Explorer" , then the typical 'Your Clock May Be Wrong' ad. By using 'Notification - Microsoft Internet Explorer', I would think Gator would be skirting some copyright issues, even though, inside the window they have a dinky little 'Advertisement' notification. No where on the ad do they say 'We are not Microsoft'.

Dotster contacted me yesterday and offered to redirect the one url to another url, which would take care of the problem for that one url, but I pointed out that that left a dozen more with gator popping, not counting everyone else's.

I asked them to state yes or no, will they remove gator from our parked urls, and I am still waiting for an answer.

Elbowcreek I have 37 clients using Dotster with multiple domains due to their excellent domain management tools. I e-mailed Dotster and also used their Ask question forms and silence so far on this. Only the AM will ever pressure them to yank Gator.

I just got an email from the Dotster AM regarding their February promotion.

I told them I wasn't interested. Anyone else got the email? Responded with a suitable message?
