Speaking of plactic, I just used mine over at Sears for a heavy duty washing machine that I just plug into a wall outlet.

lol! now this is a telling line [Spiral Island is the only place I've been where I couldn't decide if I'd done too many drugs or not enough."]

Must say the idea is appealing, wonder how many empty water bottles I have around the place...mmm

Glad to see this thread was about something cool and not about Pranav's love life.

I thought the guy had a head on his shoulders until I read this;

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>"The angelarians are looking after it." Mr. Sowa was referring to beings that he believes are a combination of angels and aliens <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Great. He also promises; <BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>to sail with the island across the Atlantic to London<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

You know what will happen? -His floating junkyard will break into a thousand pieces as soon as he hits his first Atlantic storm. Then my hard-earned tax dollars will have to be spent to help fund the massive US Coast Guard search that will last several weeks and several million dollars.

The hundreds of plastic bottles, which are not bio-degradeable will become massive killing machines as they spread out across the sea. Sea turtles and dozens of other species of fish & wildlife that feed on jellyfish will die from suffocation as they mistaken the bottles for their favorite food.

Sperm whales, whale sharks and other plankton-eating giants will inhale the bottles which will cause fatal digestive blockages.

The fishing nets he used to hold the bottles together will turm into another floating death trap for hundreds of species of fish who get their gills caught in the mesh. It will float endlessly around the ocean killing as it travels until it either rots away or gets caught in the props of an innocent boatowner, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the props, propeller shafts & rudders.

Then again, he claims that he recently moved a hurricane away using nothing more than his mind, so I guess he will be safe from storm surges in the Atlantic.

Nothing like believing something different to bring out undeserved, closed-minded wrath from people.

Whether he thinks there are angelarians is inconsequential.

And believing a hurricane changed course because of his thoughts is nothing to condemn him for either. Provided that he's wrong, one of these days a hurricane or some other natural force will educate him! Beliefs like that aren't hurting anything and what people are so threatened by that for I don't know. I would be much more concerned if he could aim one at me, than if he only THINKS he can aim one at me...

As for sailing that island across the Atlantic, did you happen to notice the DATE on that site, Seaslug? 1999.

Since I don't remember any news blitz about fishing a guy out of the Atlantic who had been riding an island (or any news blitz about World Records being broken--which would be the result of a success at riding across the ocean on that), I would suspect that he thought better of doing that "sail" at some point between then and now.

Now that's a good comparison!

I wonder if the Aliens & Angels have been crossbreding?

I agree, the island was cool!! I saw it on TV too. He has plants, small trees, sandy beaches, etc - just like a "real" island. And he has a little duck friend, very cute. I say, more power to him. He is living his dream.

All best respect to the guy. I bet if he'd mentioned it to people before building it they'd have laughed and said it was impossible. but he went ahead and did it.

Update: Ain't has been included in the webster dictionary and is now considered a word.

I nominate this as the Most Retarded Thread.

I *tried* to comprehend the meaning so I'm gonna make a wild guess . . . Pranav is back with the first post and the rest of the thread revolves around who knows what~!?

Who dug this dust ball up from 2002 anywho? WTF~!?

The thread is quite mummified but I wasn't going to complain when someone was calling me a "prophet."

rest of the thread revolves around who knows what~!?
Some guy who had made an artificial island out of something like old milk jugs and sand, planted plants, and put his house on it. It was pretty cool-looking, you couldn't see the jugs, they were covered up with the realistic-looking landscaping.

Then it came out that the guy had some fantastical beliefs, including that he could divert hurricanes with his mind-power alone.

The recent successful hurricaning of the "island" probably got it some renewed media attention, and got some people searching on G et al for more info about it. This thread likely is still coming up in the SERPs, which would explain why someone would register just to make one comment in it.
