So, I lost my job back in Mid September (working for a dot com in the travel industry just wasn't a good place to be at back then!).

I haven't worked since. My husband passed away a month later so I didn't look for work at all after that, I wanted to be home over Christmas with the kids so I didn't look for work then. I got pnuemonia in January (man, I sound like a 'movie of the week', eh?!) so I was down for two months.

SO, last month I went on an interview for a job I really wanted. It's only a contract until the end of July, but one that will really pad my resume and pays an amazing rate.

I just found out today that I finally passed the Top Secret security clearance with the government and I got the job!!

Starting Tuesday, I'm doing the website for the federal government for the G8 Summit that will be held here in Alberta this summer. I am just waay too excited!

PW....That is GREAT NEWS!!!! Glad that worked out for you. Do those 'contract' jobs ever lead to anything long-term (ie, will you be employed after July)

Well, once the G8 is over and done with people employed by them are basically out of a job. But once you're in Government, you can go for the internal competitions. Also, while I was talking about it last week at a Scout meeting one of the Dad's there said "you do that? I hire for the provincial government and we're hiring in August for the Social Services internal website" so it might lead to other things

The clearance alone could/should prove beneficial. I know here in Washington DC it is.

True enough. It was a bear to get, took forever. But it's good for five years.

    Jill,

I am so happy for you! <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon7.gif>

The clearance alone is major league, but I'm sure it will lead to many other great projects.

Thanks guys. Now, if all the protestors will keep their anger directed at the actual summit and NOT the office I'll be ok.

In all seriousness, the chance of voilence worries me a fair bit. Not enough not to take the job, but worries me all the same.

Congratulations,I'm sure it will lead to more work as government jobs always tend to stay on the inside

Congratulations! For a j*b, it sounds pretty good and that clearance isn't something Mr. Average Joe can claim!

If anybody tries to get violent on you, just give them a really geeky look and say you don't have anything to do with it...you're just doing what the boss says, bla bla bla, (in other words PLAY DUMB). The dumber people fall for it like a rock, and those who have enough sense to see through it aren't usually the ones going around in crazed mobs anyway.

LOL I'm a six foot tall, not too scrawny chick -- people tend to avoid me if I look annoyed

First day was fun -- busy as hell, but fun. These 8 weeks will fly by!

Thanks for the kind words all
