WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The possibility of another attack against the United States is "very real," Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday.

Recent reports of increased communications among suspected al Qaeda operatives are reminders that the war against terrorism remains in high gear, Cheney said.

"In my opinion, prospects of a future attack against the United States is almost certain," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "We don't know if it's going to be tomorrow or next week or next year." He added that it was "not a matter of if, but when."

A government official said Saturday that the volume and pattern of suspected al Qaeda communications were similar to those of messages intercepted in the months before the September 11 terrorist attacks. Full Story

We all are, Haiko. It reminds me of cockroaches...you just can seem to get rid of them, no matter how many you kill. My wife and I are starting to look at purchasing our first house, and unfortunately, we are close to DC...seriously considering putting a little distance between us and the nations capital. There was the report earlier about renting apartments and packing them full of explosives...that and a dirty bomb are part of my fears and I think DC is obviously a likely target.

Haiko,
I forgot your sis was here in Silver Spring (Hey, that's where I do traffic ) I can only hope and believe that 'goodness' will prevail. What do you do when a majority of the world hates you?

I hate to be the cynic, but I wonder how much of this is domestic politics with the heat that the administration has been taking recently over this issue. Just a thought, not to say the threats are not real.

I can't help but think the same thing Chinaski. Just about 3 weeks ago Administration officials were saying that Al-Qida had lost it's ability to function as an organization.

chinaski,

While your spin is understandable ... I seriously doubt it!

No one plans out all the sh!t on 9.11 and just leaves it at that ... they are on a mission and I am sure they will do something.

A VP will not say "Not a matter of if, but when"! Just to divert current attentions.

They could nuke the hell out of NY state and I wouldn't consider moving. I tried it once and was back within a couple of months. For those of you have haven't been here. Come see what you are missing! It's not only what you hear! It is one of the most beautiful states in the US. Something for everyone!

Haiko, as for the city, I haven't been there in quite some time so I couldn't comment but IMO if something were to happen again which I do believe is in the plans I really don't think it will be in NYC! Hopefully what ever is planned will be distrupted.

As for a better world out here! To each their own I guess. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon12.gif>

I don't buy into the politics part of it. Did the Bush Admistration know 'something' was going to happen, Yes. Did they know what was going to happen, or to the extent that it did, I don't think so. I think all Americans who paid any attention over the years knew as well something was going to happen. My wife and I had discussed it well before Sept. 11th. After the 1st Trade Center Bombing, The USS Cole, The Embassy Bombings, and the other various small scale attacks...it was clear to me their would be more. Would I have guessed them flying all those planes into buildings...nope. I figured it would have been something overseas and not here at home. I think the political issue at hand is the attacks against Bush. Various parties have tried playing everything from 'Bush stealing your social security', and those other parties doing everything they can to derail the economy...then when elections come around, "Hey, look how bad everything was during the Bush Admistration". Elections are coming up, and I think it is just another card for the other parties to gain some votes come election time.

Tom, I agree with you almost 100% but make sure you are Bi-Partisan. I also think the Bush admin didn't have any idea what was going to happen. Buttttt!!!

Lets not forget Jimmy Carter's trip to Cuba that was planned well in advance and the Bush admin timing coming out with their press release about Castro's Bio Chem Program to help aid terrorist nations. Ummm, do ya think that might have something to do with the election in Florida for good ole Jebb? <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon12.gif>

But I do agree its the ussual BS politics on both sides.

Domestic politics aside, the motivations for attacks on the US (the presence of US troops on Saudi soil, the Middle East conflict) are unchanged, so I guess the threat is unchanged.

I wasn't trying to imply that all parties are innocent in their deeds. Sometimes, I think the Dems play a little dirtier. I just think that claiming Bush knew about 9/11 and did nothing to prevent it is as dirty as you can get. I heard a local democrat say that Bush knew it was going to happen to the day, and did nothing to stop it (it wasn't coincidence that he was reading books to children that day)...Bush did it to improve his ratings knowing what would follow. Does anybody in their right mind believe that...do they think that the President of the US would have let such a large scale attack on the U.S population happen if he knew about it. I never liked Clinton, but even he wouldn't stoop to that level (although I do believe that he did turn down the offer for Osama's capture and extradition to the U.S)

(Damn, I'm starting sound al awful lot like Sean Hannity)

When I was younger, I was always a registered democrat, but I always voted for the person I felt had the best integrity, and shared similar values as myself...you know the 'Right person for the job'. I found myself voting republican more often than not. As I got older, and started paying attention to politics, I really started leaning towards republican/conservative. I will still vote for the 'Right person for the job'.

Yeah, Bush knew about it, if you take being warned knowing about it. He's probably been warned every day since he's been in office - as was Clinton, Bush #1, Reagan - go back several presidents, they were all warned about everything. But when you get warned every day about stuff that usually doesn't happen, it's not fair to pick on the one warning that meant something.
When I was stationed in Naples we got terrorist warnings just about every day. Did it happen? Yep, one time - out of three years of near-daily warnings that's not the kind of track record you make plans over.

Exactly!!! On a national public alert, we have been warned on several occassions since sept. 11th. From bridges being targets to banks, etc. It can be difficult to know what is to be taken seriously. I often wonder that if an attack were really planned, but then the attackers stopped because the public was informed. A friend at Andrew's Airforce base told me something similar. Threats are a regular occurance. We have to remain vigilant, but I am reminded that I am under threat of being robbed one day at the ATM...under threat of a break-in at my house, or a carjacking, etc.

Excuse me here ...

We are talking about a genius who planned out and arraigned the taking over of how many planes (that we know of) ... and he/ they never planned for the retaliation? Please! Will they attack again HFY!
Don't rely on the crap you see on the news ... this guy is not stupid!

He has a mission! and even worse ... he has religious followers!

I am also concerned about the timing of this warning as it might be nothing more than wagging the dog. As a Democrat I agree if Bush knew about the 9/11 attacks he would have done everything in his power to stop them, but the question is more like should he have known. As far as which party is uses more underhanded tactics I seriously don’t see how that could be the Democrats. How many millions of dollars did the Republicans spend on Bill Clinton’s zipper? Now they question anyone’s patriotism that dares ask the Government to be accountable to the people this coming on the heels of selling a 9/11 photo for a fundraiser.

For those of you that want to read more, here is what is going to be in the 5/27/02 issue of Newsweek. http://www.msnbc.com/news/753689.asp

I think it very clearly points a finger at Mr. Bush. I note one of the authors of this article was one of Bill Clinton’s biggest critics.

There are many sources but not enough of resources!

What went wrong? ... communication!

Just like our business ... the short comings of the Bloody D*am Ass*oles )parasites) is about about us ... the 6%ers ... so they spent X on doing consumer marketing and research and came out with their "offering" ignorance is bliss ... till it is a p*ss in the face!

This and every issue is about knowledge ... or lack thereof ... educate ... educate!
