I remember my first sale in November last year. My wife and I were very depressed and when I looked at CJ I could not believe my eyes - $2.49 commission on a Power Wrapper Bank.

Felt like our Christmas and Birthdays had all come at once.

What kind of CTR should I be realistically looking to get?

100% is the target, but dream on....

Holy Sh*t! 25-40%? Are you seriously getting click thru rates that high? Damn, I guess I know what my next big focus is, is I got that kind of CTR, I would only need one site.

Yeah.

Its like this - if theres nothing much on the page except a big 'click here', theres a 40% chance they will.

If there are more like 10 Click Heres its a much smaller chance they'll click on a particular link.

When a lot of people click, your conversion rate is down and when a few people click your conversion rate is up. So don't worry too much about click throughs. They are inversely proportional to conversion rate.

But don't forget to *tell* people to click.

I got an email the other day from some dingbat saying 'I would like to buy some Whatevers but there is no way to buy them off the page!'.

Well - duh! Its them big shiny blue things under the product picture that when clicked on take you and your credit card to Credit Card Heaven where lots of Whatevers hang out.

But I didn't say that. I just edited them to say 'whatevers - click here!'

People really do need to be *told* that.

Then theres no wonder that there are so many chargebacks for invalid cc if we expect dorks like that to competently provide their credit card details. <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon38.gif>

I was so annoyed I decided to wait until I'd calmed down a bit to email him and say 'have another go'.

That was a week ago now I think about it, and I'm still waiting

Leader is on vacation. I cannot possibly fill her place, but being that she is my #1 mentor, I'll try to give over semi-accurately some of the things I've gleaned from her vastly superior marketing skills.

For a page targetted at one single product that draws targetted traffic, if you've got the ad copy tweeked right, you can get up to 70% CTR or higher. (I have all time highs of 62% max, cuz I'm weak on ad copy).

I very, very often reach 50% CTR on very focused pages. Less on general pages, and miserable on some home pages that are not sales pages but index pages for the site more than anything else. I get no clicks on banners on content sites.

(@rewardme, click through rate is the number of clicks divided by the number of impressions -- how many times was the page viewed vs. how many of those visitors clicked through to your merchant. At cj you can dig down in your site performance stats to see how many times a particular link was shown vs. how many times it was clicked.)

I have one merchant that I market through about 5 different pages, and each page gets about a 50% CTR and overall I have about a 2% conversion rate. Even with small commissions they are so far my number one single performing merchant.

But nobody clicks on the banner at the top .

And WTG Wayder! A page a day, and riches are on the way.

If it's a focused sales page, I find anywhere between 20% and 50% click-through.

I only have 1 site that has a banner at the top which is only semi-related to what the visitors have searched for (ie, home loan banner, on a credit card page).. I find that I only get 1% CTR for that..
I've only left it there because is has brought in a few decent $$'s.

As you can see, just spinning banners is not going to bring the gold.

And may Leaders withdrawal symptoms be mild

I have about 10 pages, the best has a CTR of 66.7%, but most of them are 45% +. I have two pages at around 8% but they have multiple links on them and I need to rethink the copy for these pages anyway.

I feel it now depends on the ability of the merchant to convert. I can of course help them by tweaking my copy so that when the customer gets to the merchant page, the only thing they need or want to do is click the buy button. But some merchants seem to want to make the process difficult for some reason

Ah well, lets keep on playing.

rewardme,

>>25-40%

Its what I get on pages that are happily producing cash.

I rarely do anything approaching ad copy myself - I'll just clean up the merchants and add keywords.
