This has to be my worst online shopping experience yet !

I ordered that flexihose (flat hose) on JULY 4TH - I just got it today (8/6/02), and the POS broke the first time I went to use it !

After waiting two weeks for the order, or at the least, a shipping confirmation ,
I tried to cancel my order by phone (during their business hours).

I got an answering machine and no return call that day .

The following night, two days before I went on vacation, I emailed them and demanded that they cancel my order and basiclly told them what they could do with the Fk'n hose .

Of course, no quick reply to my email - got it when I returned from vacation - it took them 5 days to reply to my email with a generic reply . "We're sorry Blah Blah , due to the popularity...it is being shipped out next week ." BUT I asked them to cancel !!

It arrived UPS without a shipping box, in it's own packaging , all dented and with no invoice or return instructions, just a self adhesive shipping label slapped on the manufacturers package.

Anyway, my tomato plants are all dead now because I got sick and tired of carrying buckets of water over , and because of youcansave.com . Better name would be youcangetscrewed.com .

First and last time I order ANYTHING "AS SEEN ON TV "

There, I feel much better now that I vented

I don't know if you saw the reports on the local news, the other day, but, did you also know that the lining in the "flat hose(s)" causes cancer? You might just be better off that it didn't come on time for the maters. But what scummeisters

Before I stopped regularly looking at my spam (to make complaints) I saw several for that flat hose. That told me all I needed to know about the quality of the product.
If there's anything useful about spam, that's the only thing I've disovered - it tells you products and companies to avoid like the plague.

Well, I don't know Jay. They cancelled the orders for everyone I know, and never reversed the cc charges.
Many banks have been called on these scumballs.

"but, did you also know that the lining in the "flat hose(s)" causes cancer?~Haiko"

It does WHAT! <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon29.gif>

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>and the POS broke the first time I went to use it!~Lisa<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

And it falls apart too! <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon29.gif>

S**t, that's a good seller! Blast it, blast it, blast it...

That sucks. At least I wasn't promoting that company Lisa mentioned!

I'll definitely check out that cancer report and if it seems like a real threat then I'll have to pull it.

Not disputing that you saw that (cancer causing) reported, Haiko, but I have a deep distrust of TV reporting because it's usually quite sensationalistic and leaves out 1/2 the facts! I'm remembering the "exploding gas tanks expose" Dateline did, that the automaker won a libel suit about, and numerous other things my own local TV stations have "reported" that ended up only being "half the story."

Leader,
Trust me ... The thing is a POS !
I'm sure there were many unhappy returns , and we'll be seeing these things in the closeout/dollar stores next year .

The whole idea of it being so "flexible" is what ruins it ! It is light weight and rolls up nicely on the handle - when it's right out of the box .

BUT wait - Duh , slap myself ! You have to run water through this thing. Now you have to unroll the entire 50 feet before you can turn on the water . And, being so flexible and fabric in material ,just try to unravel all 50 feet without it tangling and twisting in about 15 different places.

That plus a little water pressure, and POP ! The POS is broken .

JJJJJJUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!

But Leader, as you know, there is a sucker born every minute . If you can sell it - sell it while it's hot !

Don't worry - No one is going to develop cancer from this thing, because they will not HAVE it long enough to be exposed to the cancer causing materials

Eeeeyuck! Lisa there are plenty of things to sell that actually work. We don't need to be selling crap. For more reasons than I have time to spell out.

Why are people buying that hose, when they can get a Space Saver Hose from DoItBest for $14.59?

BTW, DoItBest has an independent affiliate program that pays 10% on the majority of items.

Icicle,
You're absolutely right, not to try and sell "junk" , but it is also a perfect example of "let the buyer beware" .
I didn't use common sense and bought into the "hype" .

I don't think you can really "sell" this thing anyway, and most people that buy have probably seen the commercials , and are pre-conditioned to buy it, when they are "searching" to buy it online, more than likely for the best price .

If not Leader, it will be someone else for sure selling it .

Also, I don't blame youcansave.com for the hose, I blame them for their lousy customer service .

Lisa--I see... I can understand how it'd be easy to pop it!

They do well and I haven't had any reversals--but still, on the other hand I don't want to peddle something I myself would consider junk!

It seemed like such a good idea--like a mini-firehose. I was actually seriously considering buying 2 of those for myself--until I read your review, anyway... I just hate lugging the heavy vinyl hoses around (100 ft. worth of hose).

[edited to add:]

Tracy--I was about to switch the links to that (after all, DoItBest has a nice good name and hasn't sold me any junk [there's a bricks-n-mortar of theirs a couple of miles away so I have experience with their brands]).

Then I saw this part of their affiliate agreement (bold from me):

"Generally, we'll send your accrued commissions on a quarterly basis.
Amounts under $100 will be held until the total accrual reaches $100 or until December 31. On December 31, amounts under $100 will be deleted and will not be carried forward to the next year. Amounts held do not accrue interest or earnings.~DoItBest.com"

Uh, nah, I don't think so...

Leader,
You're a good person , and what you're doing is great. While I'm okay with others selling it , I'm certainly not going to try .
In fact, I have a little flat hose banner
to take down myself - I'd like to forget about the stupid thing

I had a ex-wife who love to buy these TV Infomercial items and all just seems to impload upon normal use. I also notice very few sales for any of these "as seen on TV" merchants who seem to push non-commissionable 800# and 3 easy payment plans. Thanks for the heads up on this defunct CJ merchant and the hosing you got!

Leader,

I'm familiar with DoItBest too, because they are the supplier for Scotty's, the hardware chain I work at here in Florida. In fact, that's how I happened to stumble on their affiliate program last November. I was looking for something for a Scotty's customer at work, and saw "affiliate program" on the side bar.

I didn't like that part about commissions not carrying forward either. It was November, and no way was I going to promote them, earn $80, and then lose it all. So, I wrote to them, and they responded that all I had to earn was $5.00 and they'd send me a check. Then I actually read the Affiliate Agreement, it goes further:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>6. Fee Payment.
You will receive from two percent to 10% of the net sales proceeds received from customers linking from your site. Net Sales are the actual sales proceeds received by us (after reductions for returns, freight, shipping and handling fees and other similar charges) in connection with sale of items purchased by your users through a Link to our site. We will send a commission fee check in the sum of the applicable commission fee (less any taxes required to be withheld under applicable law) on a quarterly basis under the guidelines previous stated. Amounts under $100 will be held until the total accrual reaches $100 or until December 31. On December 31, amounts under $25 will be deleted and will not be carried forward to the next year. Amounts held do not accrue interest or earnings. We will also send a statement of activity to you approximately thirty (30) days after the end of each month.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

The summary on the first page of their program doesn't bother to mention the $25 threshold. They're probably not getting a lot of affiliates to sign up because they don't qualify that on the first page. I think because it was halfway through the last quarter, they lowered it even further for me. As it turns out, it was a moot point.

DoItBest carries one item that I can't find anywhere else in any other program, so I thought it was worth a shot. I earned $34.47 from mid-November to December, and received the check about February 1.

First quarter this year I earned $209.42, check arrived May 1. Second quarter I earned $216.95, check arrived last week.

Good Things About DoItBest:

1. Huge selection of merchandise.
2. Pay promptly (within 30 days of end of quarter).
3. Very helpful. I had somebody write asking me the dimensions of an item. Forwarded the email to them and they answered promptly.
4. Will communicate with you if you write to them. They have always responded to every email I've written to them.
5. Low reversals. I've had one item reversed in the nine mines I've worked with them.

Downside about DoItBest Affiliate Program:

1. No Stats. You get an email once a week, at the end of the month and at the end of the quarter, itemizing your sales. My email always arrives at exactly 1:11 a.m. on Sunday mornings. My June Statement:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>Web Site Sales & Margin Report From 06/01/2002 to 07/01/2002 for

6/9/02 | 578961 | 83.78 | 8.37
6/9/02 | 578855 | 70.49 | 7.04

6/16/02 | 579953 | 12.87 | 1.28
6/18/02 | 580246 | 12.58 | 1.25
6/22/02 | 580706 | 33.39 | 3.33
6/25/02 | 581205 | 140.98 | 14.09
6/26/02 | 581278 | 41.89 | 4.18
------------------------------------------
658.15 | 64.22

$64.22 in commission is due to Coyote Communications Inc for orders placed on 06/01/2002 to 07/01/2002.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

I have written to them requesting stats. It would be nice to know what people are buying. They wrote back that they are looking into it.

2. Some items only pay 2%, and you don't know which ones they are. Per their site:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>The majority of the items pay 10 percent. To be competitively priced, we have lowered our profit margins and allow a two percent commission on certain items.
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

As you can see from my June report above, only one item (the second sale) didn't pay 10%.

Bottomline ... I'm very pleased with their program. There is a lot of great potential there because they have such a huge catalog of merchandise.

Well, to give them a bit of credit Lisa, it sounds (from the epinions reviews) that they got hit big time by the freebie bloodsucking maniacs!

What I assume happened is that YouCanSave tried offering an online coupon without thinking it through. They offered $20 off, but didn't stipulate it was for orders over a certain $$ amount. So the bloodsucking freebie hunters passed the code all over the freebie forums with the typical zeal "I just got a $20 flexihose for free" gawaf gawaf, "just paid shipping"

Well YouCanSave got backlogged and weren't prepared for the thousands and thousands of freebie hunters who ordered products $20 or less and used the $20 coupon code.

So they took forever to get the products out, and ended up just cancelling orders using the codes because WHO COULD afford to give thousands of product away for free.

Now their name is getting smeared all over the place because LuLu and MaryJane didn't get their FREE merchandise!!

Lets be fair, I've been an affiliate of theirs for about two years, they pay very very well, they pay on time/monthly, and sell products people are searching for.

I've never heard a complaint til this whole freebie forum/coupon code fiasco - gesh maybe we could give them the benefit of the doubt on this one.

MsMarySunshine ,
You make a good point about the freebie bloodsuckers , they can get out of hand ,
but I for one did NOT have a $20 coupon, all though I did get $5.00 off from a code inside a bag of Doritos .

So, because I responded to one of their advertising campaigns I deserved lousy service ? Companies make mistakes all the time, that's okay - they are human too.

It's how they handle them and how they treat the customer that counts and leaves the strongest impression.

So far, your experience has been good , that's fine. But if their own customers are treated poorly, I would trust them about as far as I could throw them as an affiliate .

And that IS giving them the benefit of the doubt!

Lisa
