Congrats Cazzie! Much nice surfing on cable eh?

My husband says I'm a spoiled rotten brat but I just couldn't live without at least a cable connection for the net.

Even if my cable does piss me off regularly with its 30 second disappearance stunts its been pulling lately.

Congrats cazzie! Isn't it grand? I think I would go into complete meltdown if I had to go back to dial-up. And what's even better is that it's a tax write off for me. Life is good sometimes.

I've been used to a 1.5 Mbps DSL line for years now. Everytime I go to my parent's house, I feel like slicing my wrists when I check email over their dialup connection. It's amazing how quickly you get used to and need high speed access...

Welcome to world of high speed... now how do we make it faster?

Next step for me - Verizon Air Card - High-speed 144kbps wireless web for the laptop. Next year, my office will be anywhere I want it - on the beach at the Jersey Shore, at a cafe in New Hope, Chesapeake Bay, on a mountain near Allentown, anywhere I can get a signal

Hey, the Air Card sounds dreamy!

Think we're a little way off from that here in .dk but hell, I've gotta start earning a living from Afiiliate marketing before I can dump the clients and start the laptop swindle

Cazzie, When I forst bought my computer a few years ago it came with AOL free. After about 1 month of AOL I said this really sucks there has to be better. I gave Road Runner a shot and haven't looked back since. Cable rocks.

One word comes to mind with cable. DOWNLOADS!!!! Fast DOWNLOADS of big sizes! Plus now you will be able to get twice as much work done if not more in the same amnt of time.

Congratulations!

Right now I'm on dial-up!

But soon I will have cable installed! I already talked with an cable ISP. All I need to do is some papers. There is a lot of Birocracy here is Romania.
But there is a hope. In 2-3 weeks... or who knowz maybe sooner.

The only way I can do better here than about 26K is to buy a satellite dish - maybe I should move to Romania.

I spent the weekend with relatives in rural Nebraska. Fastest I could connect was 19K on their modem. Agggghhhh! I've got to find a better way to get my ABW fix when I'm out of town.

Congratulation Cazzie! Being the stubborn penny pincher that I am, I waited so long to get cable. Well worth the cash ....

Congrats, Cazzie!

It's unthinkable to go back.

I can't even imagine being home without being online. My Outlook is always on, and cries out different sounds for the filtered emails, so I always know what's going on, even if I'm doing something away from the computer. (rarely)

Some time ago, I even forwarded all email to my cellphone as SMS when I was out (Even on vacation in Egypt), but the phone company got wise after a while and started charging for it.

Enjoy your new speed. And get a yourself new harddisk from TD. You will probably need it in just a couple of days

Can one fully write this off if it is your only ISP link and you also use it to check your home email?

The IRS isn't totally unreasonable, if you're getting a thousand emails a day and 10 are personal I doubt they'd have a problem with deducting the cost.

BUT i think an accountant would say to be perfectly safe, get a dialup with a different email address for youself.

What would I do? Look at it on a percentage basis. If it's 90%/10%, deduct 90% of the cost. But the closer you get to personal use outranking business use, the more I'd recommend forgetting it (the deduction is getting smaller anyway).

The one downside about having cable is when you go somewhere else ... like a realworld job and have to reduce yourself to a 24k or 56k connection.

All day at work today where we have a 56k, I wanted to throw the computer across the room. I've only had cable for a month and a half, and already I'm spoiled! Went to visit my father in NC last week. I never even tried to check in at ABW. It was all I could stand to check my stats and email. He lives on the side of a mountain, and only has a 24k connection.

Aaak, such torture, to read about all of you on Cable!

F.i.f.t.y.-s.i.x.-K. seems sooo slow already (average real speed--43k). But at least it's not 28!

Only 5 more months until the MSN contract that came with this computer runs out, then it is HISTORY!

No matter what connection speed you have, it's never good enough! LOL - I've been on cable for almost 2 years, and there are times even it seems too slow.

I well remember my days on AOL (Always Off Line) when I would be right in the middle of something and - Good bye! - I lost my connection. It was never anything on their end, though.

I do feel like I get more done now, but I'm very intolerant of slow sites, because I know the dial up folks are spending a lot of time waiting for it to load, or leaving in frustration.

Andy
