Victoria's Secret Lingerie Show??? Forget The Bachelor... I'm there.

We all know who's winning on The Bachelor anyway.

quote:
November 7, 2002 - BETWWTS.COM SUSPENDS BETTING ON THE BACHELOR - BetWWTS.com, a leading offshore gaming company, suspended wagering on ABC's The Bachelor earlier this week following a deluge of wagers on one of the remaining bachelorettes. Suspicions were aroused when the company began receiving up to nine new account applications per minute originating from the bachelor's hometown of Springfield, Missouri beginning on October 31st, all of which placed bets on the same woman. Aaron Buerge, the bachelor, it seems is not the only person who knows the answer to the question all of America is asking.

The Victoria Secret "special" was outrageous. Since when is soft-porn during primetime on network TV okay?? Where in the hell are the censors? Oh, that's right. There aren't any in this society anymore.

Once you had seen one model, you had seen them all. They all had pretty much the same body, just different shades of beige and brown.

    The clothes were interesting, though.

It was plastered all over the news and any other station. Even if you didn't let your kids watch it they saw enough from the blurbs. I worry about the kids today!

Well, it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. As far as what they show, you can see more at the beach. They had some nice lingerie and costumes. I lived in Germany for about 12 years on and off(dad was in Army) and at just about any lake or river women would go around topless. I stayed over with my brother at my parents friends house in Germany while they had to take an emergency trip to the states, and they had a son about 10 years old and had no problem with him looking at magazines with nude women. I was kinda shocked with it sitting right there on the coffee table. The parents are both doctors and in Europe the feeling is if you're open about things it's better. If i had kids i would rather them watch this then something violent. One is good, the other is bad. So basically the show was no big deal.

Well, I'm a Pagan so I guess I have a different perspective. But, I don't see what the big deal is either. If a naked lady happens to come into your area, the best thing to do is offer her a chair. It's only good manners.

Pornography is in the mind of the observer. Any good Muslim thinks if you don't breath through a filthy rag, it is pornographic. Not so long ago girls in pink tights were a scandal.

Hey, if you have a dirty mind, all I can say is ENJOY IT!

Okay, let me explain the "big deal." First, network primetime TV USED to be the time when you could watch TV with kids around. Now every show is full of sexual innuendo (and often just outright sex). The jokes are dirty and the references X-rated. If you want that, fine, but it shouldn't be on NETWORK TV. When I was growing up, we watched Mary Tyler Moore. It was wonderful and not a dirty joke anywhere. Now, I turn on Friends and the storyline is about masturbation. If you're under 30, you probably don't realize how TV has degraded, and that's too bad.

Second, aside from being too sexual for TV, the VS "special" degrades women. I know, you're saying, how can it do that? It shows pretty bodies and the women WANT to model. It does it by presenting women as nothing but human coatracks, once again presenting the idea that women are valued for their looks and not for their brains or character or accomplishments. When this is presented in primetime, the message is validated once again, and girls get the message, once again, that their worth is determined by how they look. And who cares how they look? Men. So once again women are giving the power to men. Men like pretty, tall barely dressed women, so that is what girls think they need to be. When they can't be that (98% of women DO NOT meet the model body type, and yet it is the "ideal"), it leads to terrible problems. The models are just too stupid and too lured by money to care.

Shows like this are just the tip of the iceberg. Women in this country are CONSTANTLY told that they aren't good enough. They need to be prettier and slimmer and on and on. There are entire industries built on the idea that women aren't good enough. The cosmetic industry, the plastic surgery industry, the diet industry...all making money because women buy into the constant message from the media that they aren't good enough as they are.

THAT's the big deal. Glad you asked?

Oh, give men a little credit, for gosh sakes. Men like pretty, tall barely dressed women. They also like smart, savvy, clean and courteous women. Men aren't all THAT stupid.

Frankly, I have rarely met a large or even an ugly woman who DIDN'T have a man in her life if she had any moxie at all. Now, of course if she is going around on a self pity trip about her looks, that's different. Or, if she thinks she just deserves a man who is smarter and better looking than she is herself, well just because, that is different, too.

As far as what is on the tube, you have an off button, don't you? Break out the Monopoly and really spend some time with your kids instead of parking them in front of the TV if you don't like the selection. That is much better for them than Mary Tyler Moore any day.

And, by the way I am 58 years old so, I guess, I know a little about the olden days.

And, there is not one thing wrong for appreciating a woman, a man, a race horse for physical beauty. A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Why should beauty NOT be appreciated? When I am looking good, I certainly want to be appreciated. There is not one thing about appreciating beauty that excludes appreciating other qualities in a person.

Additionally, I have observed that the women, who complain that men are only interested in looks, really mean that they can't get a date with the captain of the foorball team. But, they wouldn't accept a date with the little guy in horn rimmed glasses if their lives depended upon it.

That's the main reason I don't get the complaints about VS - you had Kim Delaney (for one example and whomever took her place in the sex with anyone department) jumping into bed with whichever detective she likes at the moment on NYPD blue and walking around naked for the last 5 minutes of every single episode. (men everywhere looking for blank 5-minute long VHS tapes?) The VS show had nothing like that at all and no nudity at all, not even the blurred out screen kind. The Bachelor show, on the other hand, is truly degrading to everyone involved.

Men get all the same messages, what with spray-on black paint to hide baldness (that one really cracks me up), implants for the same, elevator shoes to look taller, beer gut trimming elastic wraps and the list goes on and on.

    LOL

I constantly get e-mail offering me something to enlarge my male reproductive parts. What message do you think men are getting anyway?

Encouraging anyone to belive that they aren't good enough as they are is one of the best selling techniques. I don't think anyone is exempt from that message.

Here's a news flash, MEN AREN'T THE ENEMY. They are half the human race and are our partners, friends, lovers, sons and companions in this world.
