While searching for some independent merchants i came across http://www.germandeli.com Too bad they don't have an affiliate program. I'm an army brat and lived in Heidelberg for about 12 years all together and miss German food. This site looks good, anybody else know a good place to get some german food?

Just had a glorious meal last night of German Sausage, Verenike, German Borcsht, Zwiebach,Cherry Moos...

All served piping hot in the meeting room of a small Mennonite Church here in central Kansas.

I will act now. I will act now. I will act now.

Ah.. Bratwurst We have a cheap, really horrible German-owned supermarket in town but it does sell fresh and frozen bratwurst.

    Hmmm...
I lived in Germany for three years but I don't really miss the food.
What I do miss is a Viennese Sausage Stand where you get a Kaesekrainer (with an explosion of fat and cheese when you bite in to it), a roll or lump of hard brown bread and a dollop of sweet or sharp mustard, washed down with good local bottled beer...
Just the thing on a cold winter evening.

We have a German owned restaurant near us. They seem to cook Canarian food (Canary Islands), with a German twist. e.g. they brought us bread at the start of the meal with a big pot of chilled lard. Hmmm. Is that German? If there is anything that can put me off my food is seeing big lumps of fat. This lard had coloured lumps in it that looked like vegetable matter.

I have been to Germany once and dont miss the food at all. I think their sausages are over-rated and tasteless. Give me a good old UK banger anyday or a bit of Spanish chorizo. Sauwerkraut (sp?), now that is a different matter. Could eat plates of that stuff (although it does get a bit windy round our house after that ).

    LOL
I was put off sauerkraut after walking into a shop in Vienna with a great huge open barrel full of it. I swear you could fall in and drown and no-one would notice...
