Does anybody know how self cleaning ovens work?, i can't find the oven book anywhere. I was cooking some pizza in the oven and while it was cooking was reading on the internet how self cleaning ovens work. The oven has a self cleaning button and needs cleaning. After reading about how it works i noticed a latch and for some reason turned it. Now i think i locked my pizza in there for hours? I didn't hit the self clean button but i did turn the latch. I think when you hit the self clean button the latch locks automatically so you don't open the oven and burn yourself. Any help would be appreciated. Will the oven open back up later?

It's good pizza too, leftover Gourmet pizza, the best pizza i have found in my area. Yeah, got lots of delivery numbers but live too far away to get any delivered. I guess it's Wendy's again

I'm making an assumption here...if you had pizza in the oven, then you had the oven turned on. For my oven, that latch wouldn't open if until the inside temp has cooled down to some unspecified temp. If you had hit that latch with the oven off, it would have opened back up for you. You'll have to turn the oven off and wait til it cools for it to open.

I sure hope you didn't fiddle with any other button on that oven. If you managed to activate the self cleaning also, you are going to have nothing but ashes left of that pizza, plus lots of smoke.

Yeah, i guess it will open back up when the temp goes down, pizza is burnt because it only had a minute left when i messed with the latch. I love pizza But i love Wendy's too

This is absolutely the funniest post I've ever seen on ABW.

How did it end? Or is it still incinerating your pizza?

Well, i learned something new today. When you hit the self cleaning button on your oven, the latch automatically locks to keep from someone opening it up and getting burned as the temp goes up to 900F+ and turns everything to ashes. The latch unlocks when the temp cools down enough. I guess if you're just using the oven normally and do the latch it stays locked too until the temp goes down again. I counldn't find anything to override this, which makes no sense, at least on my oven. Well the latch became unlocked and my pizza was incinerated. It was some good pizza, what a loss

I believe you can reset the breaker...to reboot it. Though, depending on how "smart" the oven is, it may not help either.

OK, buy an urn and put the pizza ashes in it as a conversation piece when people drop over. That way, all is not totally lost.

Yep...I'm sure a Unix oven would allow you to reset the breaker without a reboot...

An XP oven would still incinerate the pizza - but then connect to the internet and download a new one.

It is - looks great too.

But it doesn't take standard size pizzas

Trust next time you better stick to heating your pizza in your Easy Bake oven...it will be safer for everyone including the pizza.
