I want to build a simple message board for my website. I know basic html, but that's it. I did a couple searches on the net, couldn't find anything that suited me. Can somebody steer me in the right direction?

    Thanx much,
    timbaker

I prefer InfoPop, same as the boards here are run on. Lots of great features and lots of great hacks and customizations you can use.

    INfopop has its problems too.
Many times they have slow connections.
We have been using them for a while but will be switching to V-bulletinsoon.

This morning we had a 2 min link time delay.

I suggested Haiko look at vbulletin for this board.

I'd seriously recommend UBB.C http://www.infopop.com/products/ubbclassic/ but suggest that you stay away from UBB.X (this service)- it's tooo bloody expensive once your up and really running. Henry has shown me some of the great things that can be done with www.VBulletin.com

I use UBBThreads, and by hosting it myself I have had no problems whatsoever!
And the guys at ThreadsDev have some great hacks and are very helpful!

Thanx for all of your help. I think I found what I needed. I stumbled across it while reading another forum. I just installed it, it's completely cofigurable, completely free - I think , very professional - but what would this newbie know anyway - check it out for yourself, let me know what you think, but I think I've stumbled across a gem here...., thanx all.

http://www.forumotion.com is a decent host for message boards, Their boards have an expansive set of features and minimal advertisements (you aren't going to find a free hosting service without any ads at all).
