Hi Guys!

Google and other SEs hate duplicate content. So my question is regarding datafeeds, how do you avoid being penalized because of duplicate content?

The only substantial - paragraph sized - "content" in a data feed is the product description. Even if your site is built around a data feed, within the context of a page - your navigation, other links, headers, footers other standard or customized text, other ads - this is a small proportion of the page.

Even then, some builders might display all the text, others may truncate it, some may process it further.

Duplicate lists of products?
Some sites will use a full data feed, others will pull out specific product groups. Some will sort by price, others by manufacturer. Some will extract best-sellers, rebates, discounts from the main list to feature. Some will link to pages within their site, others to the merchant.
Some will be combining multiple data feeds.

... my point is that the data feed file is only the raw material, the finished product is whatever you hammer it into. When you see the number of decisions you have to make about how to process/display data from a feed, it would probably be more difficult to deliberately duplicate what someone else has done

The big hazard is duplicate data records in the feed. You need to write a program that strips them out or you'll be putting duplicates right on your own site.

Mmmh - if you have duplicate records and you process them identically, don't they just overwrite each other?
