    I AM BACK!

Had a harddrive failure last week. Disk Boot Failure. During a boot, there was no recognition of my harddrive! I just about had a heart attack!!!!

To make a long story short:

    1. Went into depression. Went to buy a new harddrive.

    2. Still depressed. The tech at the local computer store couldn't get the harddrive to be recognized on start up. Went home. Hooked up old harddrive and rebooted until by chance I got harddrive recognitin (probably tried 100 times even though all experts say once your harddrive is not recognized on startup, it's done. Or at least you need data centers to go in physically to recvover data sector by sector.)

    3. Went through a few minutes of anxiety and then celebrated for a few minutes.

    4. Bought 100 CD-R's. Backed up all data files on CD-R.

    5. Re-isntalled Win98SE. Still bringing programs back online.

    6. Will have some good sleep this weekend.

I wish this never happens to anyone here. Still smiling and back to work!

Happened to me on Saturday. Went through the same feeling of depression combined with panic. Bought a new PC and the techies at the store managed to get my old hard drive sorted after much hassle (apparently) - it's now sitting on my new PC. Hooray for techies.

you should get rid of windows 98 .. it is very unreliable compared to windows 2000 or XP.

Thanks Ray. Glad I am back to normal. And I have a clean version of Windows haha

To clarify, I love Win98SE. I only have a PIII 733 and tried installing XP pro. I had some compatibility problems with older motherboard and scanner. Decided to go back to an OS which ran faster and worked flawlessly with my exsiting hardware.

I will backup my backup using ghost + CD-R's, now that I have a bigger harddrive. Glad to be back. Very glad to be back.

Just ordered myself an 80Gb Iomega USB disk (ghost comes bundled with it) plus a USB 2.0 PCI card.. after reading the horror stories in this thread!

Ghost is great! I used to be able to boot into DOS and use the old version of ghost to backup network drives. Can't remember how to use Net commands to map a harddrive on the network anymore. But at least I can ghost from one partition to another now.

Hope no one has to go through what I went through.
