People who are sick, people who are so angry they can't think straight, people who think their belief in a political, religious, or social cause relieves them of moral obligations, people who believe they have nothing to lose...do things like this. It's horrible, but it seems to be becoming a common way for people to express their dissatisfaction.

I'm sorry this happened in your city. It's so shocking it's overwhelming.

Next Friday the 19th, my daughter was to go to Spain and Madrid with her Spanish Class on a school trip.
I don't know if they are cancelling the trip or not but it will be over my dead body that my daughter will be going!
I don't care if she never speaks to me again! Better to have her alive and not speaking to me than dead!
I would not be able to stand the worry if I let her go!
I am just totally freaking out today! I guess better that it happened before she went than while she was there!

Look for even worse from the upcoming Greek hosted Olympics. The atheletes of every country are totally at the mercy of the newly elected liberal socialists there, rather then the restrictive rights conservatives. Look for a repeat of the German Olympics security fiasco.

So sorry for the loss of your friend. I know how you are feeling. After going thru 9/11 here in NY I understand your fears and your loss.

    Connie
If it was my daughter I would do the same thing.
Hope the school shows some sense and cancels the trip at least that will get you off the hook with your daughter

What a sick world we live in.

Such devastating pictures on TV...So many innocent people.
Too bad we can't just stick all those terrorists together somewhere out in the desert and let them go at each other.
Just can't understand how human beings can be so evil.

Times like this I'm glad I don't have a TV.

The terrible thing is, these people aren't evil.

    They're misguided.

The people who guide them are evil.

My condolences. I heard about it this morning. What a tragedy.

And Connie, I understand your feelings, but I don't think it's a risk to go to Madrid/Spain. It's as safe/unsafe as going to New York.

And Mike, you have no idea what you're talking about at all. Greece's conservative party won the elections!!!!

Anyway, they're investing a lot in security and are actually closely working together with the Americans. There even will be a lot of American police there during the Olympics. There's a bigger chance the olympics will become a fiasco because of the stadiums being not ready in time.

As of 10 minutes ago AP reports 190 confirmed dead and 1200 injured. Terrible loss of innocent lives from some group seeking a seperate state to carry out their version of a perfect utopia.

    Either or suspects...

Spain: Van, Detonators, Quran Tapes Found
    9 minutes ago

MADRID, Spain - Police probing the Madrid terrorist attacks found a van Thursday with detonators and an Arabic-language cassette tape with Quranic verses, and officials said they aren't ruling out any line of investigation.

The van was found in the town of Alcala de Henares, 15 miles outside Madrid. On the front seat police found seven detonators and the tape, Interior Minister Angel Acebes told a news conference.

"Because of this, I have just given instructions to the security forces not to rule out any line of investigation," Acebes said.He said the armed Basque group ETA remained the "main line of investigation" in the blasts that killed at least 190 people. But with the van find "all kinds of lines investigation open up," Acebes said.

Three of the four trains bombed Thursday originated in Alcala de Henares and one passed through it, the state rail company RENFE said. Arnoldo Otegi, leader of an outlawed Basque party linked to ETA, said earlier Thursday that he did not think ETA was behind the blasts, and he suggested "Arab resistance" elements were involved.

Either way they are all very sick murdering terrorists.

An Arab news network and website just posted an audio tape & fax from Bin-Ladens group claiming they carried out the Spanish bombings in Madrid.

Watching BBC this morning, their expert was very suprised that the Basque separatist group Eta was to blame, based on their past activities. They usually make a claim right after an attack. Stuff isn't adding up...

As for the Greeks, Matlok is correct. Greece recently held elections in which the conservative party won. This is still a dangerous situation for athletes, with such a recent (and extreme?) change in goverment.

    Whole thing sucks...

I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your classmate.

I also grieve for the loss of your peace of mind and feelings of safety. This is a very sad day.

And I grieve that a young person will lose the pleasure and all the value that comes with travel and meeting new people and seeing new things.

The world has become a smaller more frightening place because of our immense failure at learning how to get along with each other on a very tiny planet.

    Connie,

Would you let your daughter go to New York?

Spain's probably safe now - the message has been sent and received.

The UK is the obvious place to steer clear of - they haven't had an attack yet, and they're Bush's biggest allie.

My daughter and I have been to NYC many times. Even shortly after 9-11 to visit ground zero.
I knew the security was very tight then and felt comfortable going. In a foreign country I don't know what measures they take security wise so I don't feel comfortable.

The thing here is that she will not be with me this trip, just 44 classmates and some teachers. If I were going with her it might be a different story. But then, I guess I wouldn't feel safe going anywhere out of the country right now.

Just because they have been hit now does not mean it is over and safe.

I would rather she miss a trip than have me missing my daughter. A trip is just a trip. You can do it another time. I cannot replace her.

It's to the point where no country is safe anymore from these kinds of cowardly acts except the country's that breed and brainwash these murderers. My condolences to your country Javi
