Do not be misled by the name 17 or thirteen year locust or cicada. There is a brood coming out every year. Some years they or worse than others, but I can vouch from personal experience that there is never a year that they are not present in numbers. And that experience covers Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Washington, Arizona and Thailand. They vary in size depending on the variety. In Thailand they are eaten while still alive as a delicacy.

Errrmm usually they are cooked and eaten to be honesyt, I've never seen anyone eating them live in Thailand, though I don't doubt that in some corners of the country they might be eating them live.... but delicacy, no, it's a snack, just like French Fries, but they're better for you

    Cheers

    Yikes....

I'm going to be outside chasing my cats off! They love the Cicadas; they chase them - swat at them and run around having kitty fun with them.

To think my kitties are playing with there food

I remember this from 51 years ago when I must have been just 9. It is an incredible thing to witness.

They were everywhere. You couldn't take a single step outside without crushing them under foot. They crashed and banged against the screens on windows and doors constantly like Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds". The chirping sound was unceasing. Very strange and erie, indeed.

Then, they were gone and the clean up began.

Spring came again the next year and 51 years later, I am here to tell about it.

Do what we did then. Stock up on necessaries. Stay inside and play cards with your family. I don't recall being housebound very long.

The last time they came out big here. They were everywhere. Clouds of them.

Now I to have cats and they are going to be bringing me many, many little snacks to share with them.

    They just love me so.
