    Hi Sandra,

    Welcome!

I would have approved you more quickly, but for some reason I couldn't find your PID in CJ's wonderful new admin interface. I didn't know CJ assigned 4 digit PIDs...!

Anyway, welcome to the club. Please let us know if we can do anything to help.

    Thanks and good luck.

    -Dale

p.s. To answer your question: In general, there will be an approval wait of a few hours if you sign up during the wee hours of the morning when I'm sleeping and not checking my mail every 5 minutes. Otherwise, new accounts should be approved pretty quickly.

    Wonderful Feed

Thank you for the wonderful welcome, as for the 4 digits its because I have been there since they opened. I call them from time to time and someone normally argues with me about my PID. LOL They forget some of us stuck around from day 1

As for the wee hours, ever find a programmer or webmaster sleeping during the wee hours they are not true to there craft

I am eager to see sales increase, thank you for the GREAT feed.

    Concerning the Feed:

Would it be possible to add Categories. And if you feel real NICE perhaps sub categories. Beautiful feed and tons of all my favorites. Without categories its a bit difficult to handle.

    I agree with Sandra

I downloaded the feed a while ago but have not done anything with it because of lack of categories. Can be done, just much more work. Categories make great starting points for getting a site up quickly.

    Thanks for the feedback.

We currently provide product categories for the non-video products, since we created all these records manually and have relatively diverse data.

Are you looking for a different type of category? Something like Anime, Scifi, Western, etc or something different?

The videos are more problematic, but I am working on adding some form of genre (Action, Fitness, Scifi, etc) into this section of the feed very shortly.

Just this morning I also populated the following video fields: original release year, video release date, artist, and release company. If you downloaded the feed before 10am on June 18th, you might want to grab another copy to see the new additions.

    More to follow.

    Thanks,

    Dale

I know your probably very busy with our last request of categories and hate to burden you more. But would it be possible in the FUTURE to add:

Top Ten Bestselling DVD, VHS, Games, Comics, etc....

    That would be grand!

    Hi Sandra,

    Genres are on the way.

A bestsellers feed is already on our feature requests list. Great minds think alike!

    Hi Sandra, PerfectG,

I wanted to let you know that the categories are now in the feed for all products. There are over a hundred different categories, so hopefully you can build genre-based sites and pages more quickly now.

Bestseller feed is coming in another week or so.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Dale

Thanks. Will download it this weekend and have another look.

Just gone to intranet to sign up as new user. Keeps saying my e-mail address is not valid. Tried two e-mail addresses, neither was accepted. I typed them in correctly.

    Hello Dale,

I decided to get caught up on a few things this weekend, so I loaded your feed but hummmmm..

If you would do me a Major and upload your own feed.

Open it in excel then Data Sort by:
    thirdpartyid thirdpartycat

    And scroll down...

There are cats by numbers and cats that do not even have a cat at all. And some comics are now in collectibles. It’s a bit confusing from the last feed.

I am not sure what you are working with for your internal database. But you obviously have your information categories and subcategories.

I sincerely hope this info helps. I did load and reorganize as best I could, but your DVD/VHS/CD's you know the big monster areas are sitting looking at me!

***************Ohh I am going to weed out your How Tos section.. As I have 5,000 pages of how to’s I can really USE THESE. WHAT is the change like for these items? I really need to know because I can set it as a modified banner rotation but for products instead. My How To’s section is hit so hard it would make most people CRY in envy! Good product for that area.

    Sandra Roussel

example for the product rotater: visit my site and look at the right nav. FEATURED ITEMS. Those are all placed in what is used for a banner rotater, I just use it to rotate products.

    Hi Sandra,

    Sorry for the confusion.

I had populated the video thirdpartyid field with the release year of the video (2 digits) because I thought it would be useful to some affiliates. In retrospect, the placement is probably too confusing since non-videos actually use this field for a real category id...

I just updated the thirdpartyid to be the 4 letter category identifier that is expanded in the thirdpartycat field. This gives you a short category name to use for searching and filtering.

I'm not sure where else I can put the release year without breaking away from the CJ feed spec (which I was hoping to stick with for now, at least...).

As far as comics being collectibles, I'm not seeing them. If you could give me a couple example sku's that you think are wrong, I'll look into them.

Video inventory and changes: We receive inventory updates from our video warehouse as often as every 2 hours, daily change files for individual record updates, and 200-400 new releases every week. There seem to be about 1000 records that change status every day (either going in or out of stock, or coming into stock for the first time). Does that answer your question?

One of our upcoming affiliate intranet features is to allow for custom feed downloads from our site as well as through a script. This would allow you specify that you only wanted (for example) howto videos and bestsellers, and download a file containing only those products. The goal is to help you automate updates as much as possible, so that you would be able to run updates more frequently to remove dead stock and add new products. These downloads could also be automated through a scriptable tool like curl or wget. Does this sound like something you would use?

The feed has been updated again, so give it another whirl and let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Dale

    TERRIBLE,

Your feed links are not tracking, and if you click on a link then add it to your cart, decide to continue to shop -- The item is no longer in the cart. I spent 30 minutes just tryng to buy something, the items would not stay in the DARN cart. and my products will arrive shortley and no tracking.

Please do not ask for my tracking number - this is a test and I can not ensure all is well if you are trying to fix this order. As soon as the order arrives I can and will give you the tracking code.

    TERRIBLE!

    Sandra,

Have you ever heard the saying: "You can attract more flies with honey than with vinegar?"

Sorry to hear you had trouble on our site.

The only problem with our shopping cart software that I'm aware of is that the "referrer" tag is required to maintain your cart. If you have a personal firewall or proxy that filters the referrer tag, you will need to disable that feature in order to shop on our site. If you don't have a personal firewall, then you will need to give me some more information before I can help.

Likewise if your links aren't tracking, I can't help much if you're not willing to say what you were trying to accomplish. I looked for your PID both in my server logs and on CJ, and I don't see any clicks from your registered site on 6/26.

We had many sales through CJ today, and well over 100 completed transaction for the day, so I'm relatively sure our website is functioning properly.

If you would like to email me some more details about your problem, I will be happy to help you.

Dale - this is the first I've heard this mentioned.

Can you please give us some more detail on what you're referring to?

    Hello Dale,

I must admit the referrer tag is by far the oddest reason I have heard to date! I have made numerous purchases utilizing all types of software, cookies, and a variety of other ways in which a shopping cart can and does track an order.

Lets discuss your CART forget CJ for a moment. I arrived at your site because I was interested in testing your services, products and CJ tracking.

Arriving from a link provided by you of the data feed. I immediately started bouncing around your site looking around and generally getting a better understanding of how to navigate your site. I decided to add an item to the cart.

I then utilized the option Continue Shopping. Found something else I wanted to purchase and whala Nothing was in my cart. Very confused. I started the process over again but this time decided not to browse around, just add the item to cart, clicked continue shopping and added the other item. AGAIN nothing in the DARN cart. I tried a variety of ways to get 2 items in the DARN cart. (Hers where the VINIGAR comes in)

Decided to do a search and lucky me, the 2 items were located on page 1 and page 4. So I went to page 1 added the item using the check box -- continue shopping -- clicked page 4 added items. FINALLY the DARN (Used worse words) Products were in the cart. Checked out and with relief was going to bring this to your attention as soon as I had a free moment. Then I received an email stating the items had shipped and to expect them in 2-4 days!

First thoughts, very good contact from service department. Logged into CJ and WHAT NO ORDER???

After 30 minutes of messing with the thing, in shear frustration that is still carried to the writing of this post, I wrote here to express my frustration and dissatisfaction.

Your reply is a referrer tag? Likewise if your links aren't tracking, I can't help much if you're not willing to say what you were trying to accomplish.

I hope I explained myself – and hopefully you can read my frustration as a consumer. Then my frustration as an affiliate, hate to say it but still upset by the DARN CART. Ha ha ha Finally able to laugh about it, it was a mess. I did receive your IM and when you do get back on line give me a chat!

An update to bring some closure to this thread...

A couple weeks ago, we updated our shopping cart tracking system to use both url-based and cookie-based carts. Since then, we have recorded a significant reduction in lost shopping carts, and our conversion rate has increased measurably. Woohoo!

Sandra and I have also talked a lot since this thread started, including some great suggestions for our datafeed that have been implemented (in our direct datafeed).

Thanks again for your help and advice Sandra. I hope we can continue to work together to sell more cool stuff.

If anyone else is interested in starting up a datafeed site, please check out our program. We recently doubled our return days (from 45 to 90), added multiple levels of performance incentives, and as always we're parasite free.

    Thanks,

    Dale
