Any of our ABW extended family from down under have suggestions for the best way / place to enjoy New years in Sydney? My family will be staying in the Double Bay area the last week of the year, so any advice on how to get the most out of the week, and especially any tips on where to be for New Years Eve are very welcome.

And anyone who might want to have a little ABW'er get together for a lunch or dinner in that time frame, let me know.

Ah... New Years Eve in beautiful Sydney, you're in for a treat. If the weather's good (hopefully it'll be one of those beautiful balmy Sydney nights), get yourself a good viewing spot down near the harbour and take in the fireworks. You won't see better than these, the display focuses on the Sydney Habour Bridge and it's the most spectacular fireworks and lighting display... You won't be disappointed. This should wet your appetite. This is the way many Sydneysiders spend the night, so be ready for crowds but the atmosphere is great. There are two displays, one at 9pm and one at midnight which is the big one and includes the bridge.

This site gives you maps to find the best vantage points, info and ideas for the night if you're interested... and have fun!
