Wink Is the "Google Dance" Over for Us?
Well, some people call it the "Google Dance". Google reduced the number of listings of our pages by about 70% on August 20, 2004. The pages started coming back around the end of January 2004. Now, they are back in full force as they were in February 2004. We don't know how long this will last, but we certainly welcome the change.

I hope not. I got blasted out of the water for one of my best performing keywords earlier in the week. I did occupy positions 1 and 2 for over a year, I went to no. 70 and nowhere, then this morning I find I'm back at 1 and 2 again. There's a few others I need to come back too.

The odd thing about it is that it hasn't affected my income as much as I thought it would in the last few days, maybe people are arriving in ways I just never realised, or I assumed that my "best" keywords are actually more effective than they really are.

Things look exactly the same for me as they did since the December 15th update. Traffic is next to nil from Google.

It's hard for me to tell if things have improved right now. My site was hit hard in both August and December. Google results have been extremely limited. I look forward to checking out my web logs.

Some of my sites have gone from 90+% google and 10% yahoo to 90% yahoo and 10% google without much change in overall traffic numbers. Wierdness! :-)

Seeing a nice Google traffic surge here. I had already recovered 50% of my Google traffic since Dec. 15 update. Now it's up another 20%. Major keywords for home page went from #4 to #2 out of 2+ million results.

I am seeing a little more from Google than I have in the past few months, but not nearly like it was a year ago.
    Thank goodness for MSN!!!!

MSN has never given me any traffic above the noise level. Not sure why. Maybe they know I am a unix geek. :-)

I am seeing the same results as I did since the mid Dec update. My traffic is crawling back a little but I don't believe it is from google changes although I have not checked all the logs thoroughly. My guess is possibly more people are doing an exact search in google (with quotes) now that the unquoted searches are so whacked out AND/OR yahoo/MSN is sending more traffic.

The google search results make no sense now. I started a do-it-yourselfer site on a specific aspect of home remodeling in the last 2 months. All the pages are indexed in google and only (the index) in yahoo. I am getting traffic from that one page of yahoo and none from google. Today I did a search *"how to paint walls" without the quotes. My whole site, including the domain name itself, is about "painting walls". I am #5 in yahoo and #152 in google with a lot of irrelavant results before mine. This new "content" site of mine has absolutely no ads of any type on it so this is not a "punish affiliates" scheme. What was really kooky was that I ran across a forum post (ranked well ahead of my site) that I MADE with a link to my site on it!

This is not a good thing for google, and ultimately it won't be a good thing for all the adsense I run when people no longer use their search engine.
*Name changed - but actual search/site was very similar

A unique keyword for my website had me at #1 listing for Google for months. Today I dropped to the bottom of the second page, but my domain name and description is showing up in all of the listings ahead of me. Someone else has used my site to get top positions. This is definitely not good for me. Yahoo has been much better to me.

My Googlebot only on the 4th position, the winner so far is Jeeves, the 2nd place MSNBot, and the 3rd place Inktomi Slurp.

I didn't notice any big change in traffic from Google, although in a strange twist, today I found my poster section on one of my old sites has been listed on a bunch of German SEs and German image SEs. And some other miscellaneous European ones. Instead of on the .coms! Gah...

What was really kooky was that I ran across a forum post (ranked well ahead of my site) that I MADE with a link to my site on it!
I've found that Google *loves* the new posts from my forum. If I wrote the same stuff on a regular page, it'd probably ignore it for months. Problem is, it only seems to like "new" posts. After about 2 weeks, they drop out of sight.

    NOW WAIT A MINUTE...

I didn't say that I don't make money off of Google..
    I do..

    BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS:
    I DON'T
    Build specifically for THEM..
I just build good RELEVANT pages and keep building...
BUT it would NOT bother me if they went 404 for the rest of the century..
    AS A MATTER OF FACT

    THAT WOULD BE FUNNY.........

How does one "build a page for Google"? I have optimized for google (with wordtracker) before, but until recently, optimizing for google was nearly identical to optimizing for yahoo. Sometimes I optimized for yahoo instead, but as I said there was basically no difference. And as far as the other Search Engines, I really didn't care although I would guess my google/yahoo optimizations would probably work well for them also.

Frankly, right now I don't have much of a clue as to how to optimize for google so I couldn't "build a page" for them if I wanted to.

My days of pouring all my effort into SEO are done. Still important but I have realized that working on other things would make for better time spent.

Everybody should protest and ban Google from your sites. That'll show em.
