    Getting Links from Datafeed Sites
    Hi everyone,

I'm a recent graduate and the author of a book called The Student Success Manifesto.

I'm not interested in creating a datafeed site, but I'm interested in finding ones with similar content that would link to my book. My questions are:

    1. Is it a good idea to approach these sites for a link or reciprical link to increase keyword ranking?

    2. What is the best way to find the best, most relevant datafeed sites?

    3. What is the best way to approach these sites? Offering a reciprical link? Offering to pay for the link?

    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

    >>1. Is it a good idea to approach these sites for a link or reciprical link to increase keyword ranking?

Sure, PR is PR. Just make sure they *have* some!

    >>2. What is the best way to find the best, most relevant datafeed sites?

Just run a search and start clicking the listings till you find some. If your niche has been "ethnic cleansed" of real affiliate sales sites (feed sites), then try a different, but related, category.

Avoid the junky spam ones in any case.

    3. What is the best way to approach these sites? Offering a reciprical link? Offering to pay for the link?

    A) Affiliate Program, 10%, and a free feed of your own to list.
    B) Pay? Depends on how much/terms of offer
    C) Recip from a high-ranking page. Feed sites can always use good links-in.

And, what Trust said. Are you hoping to have a link from every page or something like that? Then I'd say definitely A or B--there's got to be some money in it, to do every page.

Thank you very much for your input. It is extremely helpful.

The reason I'd like to target relevant datafeed sites is for SEO purposes. I understand that PR for each page is important, but it seems like thousands of links from a high PR site would be very powerful. Does this make sense?

In theory it makes sense. But in practice, Google often does not make sense...

Sometimes it works great, but sometimes it doesn't seem to do much at all. One thing that I've noticed that it *doesn't* do, is raise your own PR much (if at all). But it may help you gain rank in the SERPs for a particular keyphrase...

Fair warning--I assume you've read the Google Guidelines about linking schemes and understand that this is a risky strategy by definition? Not that I condemn such, not at all actually! But I think you should be *aware* of that just so you don't get any undue surprises...
