    Subcategories
    I'm new to this so this may have been asked before. I was just wondering if I could change how the results are displayed.

    In particular, when you select Type=Browse all the subcategories are displayed at the bottom below "Browse More". Is there a way to display the subcategories at the side in a column. That way I could show the top sellers in a different format.

    Thanks

    In Associate Engine ae.pl, the format of the bulleted list of sub-categories is not customizable.

    The xgridB configuration variable (in ae.ini) specifies the grid options to use when displaying the bestsellers grid that appears at the top of browse index pages. The default is "c:3,r:2,p,m,e,br,at,n,h:669999:FFFFFF:Top_Sellers" (3-columns, 2-rows, prices, more link, nothing if empty, <br> after, align-top, numbered, header row with background color 669999 and foreground color white and text "Top Sellers").

    If you want a sidebar that lists sub-categories, make your own webpage or template file that has that list hard-coded into it.

    Is there a way off keeping the subcategories below the Top Sellers list after a user clicks on "Click here for more". It disappears and shows the next 6 top sellers.

    Thanks for the quick replies David.
    I have a few more beginner questions.

    1. In the navigation bar, the word "Subjects" appears when you click on categories. Example : Home / Books / Subjects / Entertainment / Movies
    When you click on "Subjects" it takes you to the Amazon page where mode=1000.
    Can it not show up or keep someone in my site with the results of mode=1000.

    2.The top sellers on my site don't match up with top sellers at Amazon. Its not even close. Do they get updated at different intervals or am I doing something wrong.

    3. When redirecting search engines to amazon.com for product details when using a virtual directory do you add the following code .htaccess or do you replace whats already there with :

    RewriteBase /
    RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} bot
    RewriteRule ^amazon/asinsearch_([^,/]+)/?$ http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...D2Y5TUCCVJ7DGE [L]

    4. Is there a variable that tells you what is the current mode. For example, in type=browse, mode=books it shows top sellers followed by categories. Lets suppose you are in Home / Books / Subjects / Entertainment / Movies. At the very bottom would appear the link "Click here for top sellers in Movies." I like to have that link near the top. To do that I would need the mode as a variable so it works for all categories.

    5. In future releases, would it be possible for
    a. Have a picture size to manipulate formats so it is somewhere between format.image.medium and format.image.large

    b. Separate <!--results--> so it shows top sellers in <!--results--> and categories in
    <!--categories-->. That way you can control when and where they appear.

    c. Address my problems in 1 and 4.

    Sorry for all the questions but thanks for the answers.

    1. "Subject" in navbar: That's coming from Amazon.com. Add the following line in your ae.ini file to remap browse node 1000 to books (283155):

    browse.remap.1000 283155

    2. Top sellers: Top sellers provided by Amazon.com through its Amazon.com Web Services (AWS) does not exactly match what appears on the Amazon.com website. Amazon.com's AWS server doesn't appear to use the same database as their www server. Nothing you can do about it.

    3. Redirect spiders: Add those lines after the lines for Virtual Directory. See http://www.c3scripts.com/amazon/docs17.html#bot (I've clarified the instructions).

    4. Current mode: The current mode is available via {form.mode}

    You could edit ae.ini and set store.include.results.before to the following value (it's one long line):

    store.include.results.before "<!--if !form.asinsearch--><p><a href='{cfg.script.url}?type=best&mode={form.mode}'>Click here for bestsellers</a></p><!--endif-->"

    5. Manipulate image size: Four image sizes are provided by Amazon.com (thumbnail, small, medium, large). Amazon.com does not provide width/height. If you want to resize images, you'll have to do that yourself by using something like the following in your details*.html formatting file (change "75%" to desired size):

    <p><a href="{format.url?y}"><img src="{details.ImageUrlLarge}" width="75%" border=0 alt="{details.ProductName*}"></a></p>
