additional product links on each detail page
I'm sure this has been asked before but is there a WM tag that will take associated products (same subcategory) and place links with the product name within each detail page?

    Just like this : http://216.105.56.17/browseproducts/...SS-1-12in.HTML

    Thanks in advance

You could generate an index page for those in a separate settings file and use the WM-Include tag to insert it into your detail pages.

ps. With 2000+ products this seems time consuming.
I'd like for , let's asy 10 products in the same category to have links for them on each detail page within that category (x2000)

WebMerge generates two basic kinds of pages, index and detail. An index page is one which contains data from multiple records, and a detail page contains data from just one record.

You can generate either or both with a single WebMerge settings file, and in the Generation tab there are options to queue up other settings files to run in sequence.

If you've reviewed either of the tutorials linked at the top of this page you've seen multiple settings files in action.

In the example page you pointed to earlier you have effectively a mix of detail and index pages. At the top you have a detail view for a given record, and below that you have a listing of info from multiple records.

One way to do what you need it to have one pass which first generates just the HTML from the "Other Items" list as a very simple index page. Picture a file containing just the part of that page between "Other Items from Clips & Attachments" and "Return To Divers Supply USA scuba gear". Use the category field for the file name, with no file suffix.

Then in a second pass you can use the WM-FieldInclude tag in a detail page to insert the contents of those "Other Items" index pages. The WM-FieldInclude tag lets you specify a field which contains the name of a file on disk which will be copied in its place. Since your first pass generated a bunch of mini-index pages from your categories, your WM-FieldInclude tag can use the same category field to identify the file.

I agree that it would be cool to make that simpler. But in all fairness it's the first time in three years that it's been requested, and that a program designed or something else can also do those two elements in two steps isn't so bad.

But I'm always up for adding new conveniences: How would you envision using something that would do that more simply?

I'll be happy to see if I can make it so....

Looking forward to it. I'm laying out the roadmap for v3.0 and v4.0, so this is a good time to submit requests -- the more detail the better (sometimes I can be dense <g>).

    Hi,

I just got WebMerge and just finished (well, almost) building my first set of
pages with it - nice. However (isn't there always a "however"), I really
couldn't quite figure out how to do what I wanted - partly because I'm very
new to the software and partly because the detail pages aren't exactly
designed to do it - or so I think, after reading a number of posts here.

I set up a 3tiered site. A main index to categories, sub-index of categories
and detail pages - one record per detail page. What I really wanted to do
was put, say, 4 records on each detail page as long as they were coming from
the same category. Leave any extra table cell(s) empty if I ran out of records
for a category, and go on to to the next category on a new page.

I can see that by doing a 4 tier without any detail pages - i.e. 3 sets of index
pages, I could almost get what I want. What I'm too braindead to figure out
is how to get just a max of four records on a page and then build a new one -
and how to get the linking to work right from the category indices to the
    lowest level "index" pages.

I can't figure out where to look next so I'd appreciate any guidance (even if
it's just "wait for Ver 3.0").

    Thanks,
    Richard
