Angry Porn sites are the scum of the earth
Don't even bother to argue with me about this because I'm so furious my head's about to pop off.

Having noticed a decline in Google for a certain type of sales page I've created I decided to check on a text string that I believe is unique to my pages. Lo and behold a bunch of sites were pulled up by Google that are using my text verbatim. Well that didn't surprise me, there are more thieves on the web than I care to contemplate. However, when I clicked on one of the links I was redirected to a porn site. It's revolting to me that these pornographers would resort to creating sites with misleading text stolen from someone else, for the sole purpose of sending the searcher to a porn site.

Obviously as soon as I closed the window I visited doxdesk.com to make sure no parasites had been downloaded.

Even more shocking is the fact that these pages are even listed in Google. Usually when I hear people talk about how Google's lost it's mind I figure they're just chewing on sour grapes, but I'm a believer now! I think I'll be using Yahoo or MSN for my searches from now on.

    Aaaarrrrrgggggggggh!

Porn popup hellholes love ALL the PPCSE re-directs and will steal content for natural SERPs for their doorway pages. ******************* ****************** ************** *********** ********** They own thousands of internet cafe's and hundreds of porn sites, which are immune to the .com bomb syndrome.

    Mike,

How can these ************** be put out of business, i.e. taken off the Web?

Turn them in on the CIA tips page?

As usual, the little guy/gal & the honest gal/guy gets squeezed out and the SCUM always finds a way to get through google's new and improved SUPER-DUPER-POOPER-SCOOPER algorithm.

Well this ought to get everybody fired up.

Long standing philosophy and I subscribe to it is that there wouldn't be an Internet or at least not as developed as it is without the porn industry.

Porn has dumped billions into creating new technologies to peddle their products in a nameless faceless environment where joe CEO and mary PTA can get their jollies without upsetting the folks at the country club.

Without the R&D money from the porn industry, we wouldn't have on-line credit card processing (at least not before 2000 anyway), probably wouldn't have near the propogation of instant messenging and forget about high speed connections in your house or streaming media.

And curses should I even say, "no affiliate marketing"? Most if not all of these were started by and they definitely were pushed forward by those very same porn purveyors that you curse at.

Sad that porn can't cure cancer cause if it did, we would have beaten that years ago.

Okay, post over, begin cursing me and my comments.

cmayr23, show me some data, research studies, anything that supports your contention that the porn industry has played a significant role in the development of the internet or ecommerce. Otherwise as far as I'm concerned your post has no value other than as an apologist stance for a group of people who collectively have demonstrated that they're prepared to do just about anything to anybody just to make a buck.

While you're at it, see if you can dig up any data on the role of organized crime in the porn industry, online or off.

I have also heard on news reports that the porn industry is largely responsible for where the web is today. Look at the top 100 searches, you probably see lots of scum. So like everything else, I don't care so much that it is out there. What bothers me is the fact that it is pushed on people. People that aren't interested in it should not have it thrown in their face. Back in 1997 I found copies of entire Yahoo search pages where all the links went to porn sites. What looked like a Yahoo search results page and listed my web design company went to a porn site. The sleeze has been doing this for years.

I know it sucks to find site thieves, no matter what the thief is using the stolen stuff for. And, don't forget to nark to Google, so YOU don't get hit with the dupe-content penalty!

As for the porn industry in general, I tend to lean toward cmayr's interpretation, though--although maybe not so far as to give porn credit for all that's right on the net.

I remember well when I called banks, and said I wanted to deal online...and they said, "HUHH??" They couldn't understand WHY *anyone* would want to only deal online...and they INSISTED on a person having a business address before they'd open a merchant account!!!
Porn purveyors managed to chop through that dense fog of banker stupidity.

When Google was considered an unassailable fortress, one industry showed it could be penetrated as easily as a sieve...

When nobody thought anything special could be done with HTML...they were doing it. (Guess which sites first decided to actually USE popups [and more popups and more popups and more popups until the browser would crash!]!) (Edit: Oops Webmaster Mike beat me to that one.)

Is porn like sh*t? Sure! But with proper processing, raw sewage sludge becomes Milorganite...

    /I am new
    //dont mean to offend

My first affiliate program, which is still my most profitable, is through an adult site. I have always marketed my product ethically, and respectfully to the women. The knowledge that I learned through what a buddy called "beer money, some extra change" has changed my life. I have since changed my degree to business entrepreneurship, and I am now reading this forum, instead of the adult industry versions, because I would like to eventually support myself and a family off of legitimate, ethical affiliate marketing programs.

It is the people marketing the industry, not the industry itself. I have been to many conventions, and met many people in the industry, and there are many respectable people, but the few ruin it for the many, which has repeated itself throughout history (look at the Boston Tea Party)

Guns dont kill people, people kill people type argument, I guess....

But, the people who do abuse the system, and work in unethical procedures do suck at life!

This isn't about site thieves, Leader. It's about porn sites that use deceptive practices to lure unsuspecting people. The text from my site that they copied is something that I know kids search for. Kids. And yes, I did file a complaint with Google.

<sarcasm> Let us now sing the praises of those innovative spammers who've shown the world just how holey Outlook is, or perhaps the virus kiddies who've so brilliantly demonstrated the flaws in IE. What an admirable bunch of innovators these folks are.</sarcasm>

Maybe I'm just old, but I don't find innovation without ethics all that darn laudable.

Mine was the comic book version. I've already stretched the limits in this thread. Thank God greed driven porn isn't one of Charlies fixations (He mates once a year) or he'd be pimping me out on 8 mile road.

Actually I find it FAR better than no innovation at all. If your line of thinking was applied to every advancement, we'd still be in caves waiting for lightning to spark our fires.

Innovation is part of what sets humans apart from the animals, and I'm glad SOMEBODY is willing to do it! It's a sad state of humanity that the so-called "ethical" people lately, hardly ever seem to come up with anything that's even remotely new.

I figure the innovation is the raw material. Without that, you've got nothing to apply ethics *to!*

cmayr23 was right. If the online porn industry hadn't pioneered so many of the methods that we all use, then we (affiliate marketers) would not be making the money that we do.

Shawn Collins wrote an article about this topic back in 2000 at clickz.com. In the article, he states that "The consensus of marketing folks and adult industry insiders is that Cybererotica was either the first or among the early innovators in affiliate marketing with a cost-per-click program."

I agree. They have the money and motivation to think of the next big thing in order to keep attracting customers.

I do not condone the content, but some of the most engenious technical advancments in our industry has come from adult sites.

I hate the pornsters also - more than you all know, but I have to agree with Chris in:

Long standing philosophy and I subscribe to it is that there wouldn't be an Internet or at least not as developed as it is
    And Leader with the:

I figure the innovation is the raw material. Without that, you've got nothing to apply ethics *to!*
The problem now lies with legislators to enact laws so kids can't see the crap easilly - Porn Wise.

SEO wise the real scum are the F'ers who steal our sites for blackhat SEO, and that the SEs need to crack down on. Know how many times I see Pornwhatever.com/merchantname or product name in SERPS? Shoot it just shows that the Quality spiders can be fooled in seconds, not to mention the algos. The SE's, well google thinks so low of affiliates that an article from wired (dated 2/14) was the number three result for affiliate marketing for over six days on google ... shows me what they think of the scum that has infiltrated our industry and how they have the same consolidator mentality as others - kill the small guy even if he is ethical because he might ... well mess up google's SERPS - we can't have that now can we?

The problems in this environment (online) is that everyone is really anonymous and untill you actually meet them it's just judgement calls, easy enough to do on the surface when it's your dollars at stake, if you google or a parasite or a merchant against or in favor of a parasite.

What does set long lasting marketers apart is the ethics ... but if we as people (scientifically) evolved from primordal ooze, it makes sense that online marketing and sales evolve from that stinking mess also.
