    Anyone need RSS output?
I need to make an RSS generator for myself, and it occured to me that it would be trivial to make it into a WebMerge plugin tool so you folks could make your own RSS feeds from whatever sources you're using.

In researching this I find many sites which purport to discuss how to make money by syndicating affiliate content via RSS, but most of them are really just selling a book about it and don't actually post much in the way of articles online.

So what have you folks found with using RSS to help promote your affiliate sites? What sort of content do you publish, how many items per feed, how frequently do you update, and most importantly: how has it helped your bottom line?

    Thanks for the post, Fred.

Can you point me to any feeds other affiliates are generating so I can get a feel for what you folks will need?

So far so good. I've already added a new WM-Date tag for reformatting the contents of date fields, using any of the format options currently available for the WM-GenDate tag.

I've begun the restructuring of the underlying code needed to facilitate the new flexible page break options which will be the centerpiece of this upgrade. It's a bit of work, so it's difficult to say just yet when the first beta will be available for testing.

But the one thing I can say is that the gap between v2.4 and v2.5 will be MUCH shorter than between v2.3 and v2.4. Although v2.4 may look like a modest update, under the hood there were some _very_ substantial changes which make doing upgrades a lot easier going forward.

    Good stuff, Fred. Thanks.

That was helpful because while I'm intimately familiar with RSS in other contexts, I was unsure about what affiliates were looking for from it.

The more I read the more I find that what affiliates need from RSS is pretty much the same as me, which means my RSS generation tool will require relatively little effort to modify for deployment as a WebMerge add-on accessible from the Tools menu.

If you haven't noticed the InfoCenter I added to v2.4 you might like it: its front screen contains a built-in RSS viewer with a few feeds I thought you folks might enjoy. It's self-updating automatically, so I can add some of the AMWSO feeds to it soon and they'll just appear in the popup list along with the ones that are there now.

I should note that the InfoCenter is currently a "preview" edition. All of the features in WebMerge itself have undergone extensive testing in our three-month Beta cycle, but InfoCenter is an unadertised new edition added in v2.4 to iron out any anomalies before its officially debuts in v2.5.

So if it acts up on you in anyway, please either drop me an email or use the Support form built into the InfoCenter to let me know.
