Question to validate or not - that is the question
Ok - in another thread it was mentioned that we need the correct DOC type declaration on every page in order for the browsers to display the page properly. And also for the search engines to read our pages right (or something to the effect, lol)

But.. when I go to the validator place (w3.org) to learn more it says:

A DOCTYPE is a SGML document type declaration. Its purpose is to tell an SGML parser what DTD it should use to parse the document. It appears as the first line of the document...
ok, got that BUT then it says:

Most Web browsers don't actually use an SGML parser (in fact, none that I'm aware of do), and so they don't need a DOCTYPE declaration, and will ignore it if present. The Validator, however, does use an SGML parser, and therefore needs a DOCTYPE declaration.
so... This says to me that we don't really need it unless we want to use the Validator to check our code.

    Am I right?
Is it important to the search engines and browsers or not?
    Any thoughts?

It's up to you, I tried that (c...) many times before and this is what I think:

As long as I have an affiliate page out there that makes me money, I would not try to validate it on that site or anywhere else and I no longer care.

I spent a lot of time in the past trying to validate some pages and they always find something wrong in my code.

Just try to validate any site that makes money and you will see for yourself, not even Google pass the test.
