Problem: Webmerge shortening include file names
Hi thanks for you're help everyone.

Iím creating an automotive website which has individual pages for different models of cars. The problem Iím having is some of the model names are quite long and WebMerge is cutting off the file name when it creates a page.

For example (some of the names are much longer than this):

    Silverado-3500-Extended-Cab.html

    Comes out as

    Silverado-3500-Extended-C.html

This creates trouble down the line because some of these pages are being used as includes in other pages. When I have Webmerge insert the include file path from my data base (which is the full name) the include cannot be found because it no longer has the same name Ė it has the shortened name that WebMerge created when it originally wrote the file.

Any ideas for how I can make this work?

    Thanks again.

    Greg

    Are you using WebMerge 2.4?

Earlier versions truncated file names at 27 characters, but v2.4 now supports long file names on Windows.

    Thanks for the fast response.

    I'm using 2.3 on a Mac.

If I get 2.4 will it not truncate using a Mac?

In most circumstances it should not, but I've had few reports from Mac users during the v2.4 testing cycle so there may be cases where long file names may be problematic. In my testing here I can write files with long names.

And of course you need to be running OS X for long file names, as Classic itself limits file names to 27 characters. I recommend OS X 10.2 or later.

Please keep me posted with how this works out for your setup.

How do I get 2.4 and will I need my original registration code to activate it?

If so I'm not sure I have this code anymore. I purchased WebMerge about 6 months ago I believe.

    Thanks

WebMerge 2.4 is another free upgrade. Your reg code for v2.3 will work in v2.4.
