    Post WebMerge - a review
I've written a review of WebMerge which has a couple of useful ideas that other users may find interesting.

I'm advised posting the link may not be acceptable here because the webpage contains affiliate links. If you would like to read the review please PM me for the link.

    Hi,

So sorry for the trouble. I didn't realise I couldn't even read PMs without 50 posts. I don't want to send [Removed #] posts just to read PM. Could I trouble you to send it to my email instead? You can click on my name and click send email. Thanks for your trouble.

I think the admins should consider changing this rule.

    Hi KGP,

Would be happy to send the link to you but there's no option set under your profile to send an email message. You may need to go into your profile and check that.

    tmd5,

You can post the link, just not a direct affiliate link.

    Bookcave,

The rule came about because of many factors and it will not be changed, and it also has been specifically posted that I don't want the number posted, but yet you feel the need to do that yesterday. *sigh*

    WebMerge - More Uses
Nice review of WebMerge - perhaps the author could also consider putting together a brief tutorial on setting up extra fields.

I have also found WebMerge to be fantastic in handling content sites where the content can be maintained via a database. Access works great and you can automate the processing of exporting the data to a text file to use with WebMerge using VBA.

I've used WebMerge on some affiliate sites reaching over 100MB in size, the downsize is the time it takes to upload. If you're updating a site like this -- frequently -- it will get old fast. For the larger sites, suggest using PHP/MySQL or similar programs.

Given how infrequently most feeds change this hasn't been a significant issue for most of our customers (see the thread in this forum on feed changes).

But for many other publishing tasks those factors can play a role, and for that reason I'm adding two options:

Sever-based version: Run it right on the server, no upload needed.

Generate changed files only: this option will let you optionally only generate pages from records that have changed since the last run.

Why do you say feeds update infrequently, some change daily and affiliates generate new sites weekly.

I said "most". Of course no single answer will describe all possible datafeeds.

For that reason I also said I have a server version in testing (making it on par with PHP solutions but simpler to use and requiring fewer resources) and am adding an option to only process changed records (something that few people without advanced PHP experience will be able to do gracefully, giving WebMerge an additional several orders of mangitude advantage over PHP for overall efficiency in most cases).
