    Paid A Bundle....
......for a domain name. Had to have it, though. Cost me $1K. 'bout killed me, jeeese, one minute the auction is less than a hundred bucks, the next 3 guys are haggling with me for custody of this domain, jeeese. Auction went up to 1K before ending. What's the most you've ever paid for a domain name?

It was a primary keyword for my niche. I will have an affiliate program on it shortly. My return will be 10s of thousands annually, so in my case, it was worth it. Still, hurts cash flow to fork that over. Been waiting 6 years for the name to drop, though......

By the way, I love your site, extremely well done.

Now the key thing is, how do I casually mention to the wifey I picked up a domain name for $1K, lol. I may need flowers tonight.

Hey, you might consider submitting your site to Yahoo's Pick Of The Week, maybe you'll get some traffic of it, if they pick ya....

    Elbowcreek,

How did the flowers go over with your wife? Did they cushion the blow a bit?

$35 and I still cuss what a ripoff *that* was!

The only domains I'd be willing to pay $1k for, would want a heckuva lot more than that before they'd sell!

justdoit..... errr, not too well, lolol. I'm in the doghouse, but hey, the first time I get a $1K order off the site, we'll have another chat. Need to buy some new roofing for the doghouse, though!!!!

Forgot to pay a bill, too, doggonit, and they just called the house, so I'm REALLY getting it over here. Talk about bad timing!

Yeah, there's lots of unrealistic prices out there.

As for me, I'm about to have a fire sale for domains I've been holding onto.... need to cover the $1K as soon as I can.

Where did you buy this domain ? I have a few domains that I may be willing to sell and was wondering what the best method is.

This was a domain that expired - I had been watching it for 5 years - at networksolutions, and I used snapnames to grab it. Only, 3 other companies had used snapnames as well, so there was an auction that 4 companies were interested in. Unfortunately, snapnames extends an auction by 5 minutes or so if someone bids near the end, so this dang auction went on and on until the other guys finally ran out of money.

For selling off domains, here are the places I know of:

www.sedo.com - fairly large site, I believe this is the most popular.

    www.afternic.com - also very popular.

www.greatdomains.com - these guys are very restrictive about the domains they accept. My impression is that they are smaller, but carry more expensive domains, so perhaps it attracts the more serious investor.

www.ebay.com - more of a buyers market, I believe, I think there are a lot of domains that get sold off at the low end of their value.

As I do not sell off domains regularly, there are probably some other sites, perhaps someone else could chip in here.....

The most I've ever paid is $2000. It's a great name, but I probably wouldn't do it again. The most I've ever been paid is $10,000.

I just found a site I am REALLY interested in owning and, as luck would have it, the owner has a "for sale" sign up. I contacted him about it and he listed a price that was just to rich for my blood. As luck would have it though, he also included the words "or best offer."

    We'll see how it goes
