    Question Google Log Help
    Can anyone help me understand the below Google access logs?

    Googlebot checked for your robots.txt file, then fetched the main page of your site.

    "302" found it had permanently moved? think it means that . . .

    "301" means permanently moved.

    "302" is a temporary redirect to another file...

    Basically the same thing, sort of, but pretty different in the way that search engines handle the response.

    Personally, I wouldn't 301 or 302 a robots.txt file.

    Since I've put a custom 404 page on a couple of my sites, I've noticed that when robots come, it 302s everything which would have otherwise been a 404 error--including the robots.txt file. Not sure what the implications of that are...
