Exclamation casalemedia - what's this thing?
Can anyone say anything about what is the status of casalemedia?

Since I have my security settings to prohibit running ActiveX controls 24/7, I am already used to deal with one I.E prompt every time that I open a page to read a post on ABW. So ok, no big deal.

But, a few minutes ago I come here and try to browse the forums before I log in and as soon as I opened one thread to read it, I got a bunch I.E prompt warnings and a couple of cookies from casalemedia.
I know that if we're not logged in, we will see some banners between posts when we're reading a thread, but this is the first time that I saw my browser go crazy while on ABW reading a post.

So I went to Google and searched for the word casalemedia and I don't liked what I read on a few sites that talk about what casalemedia, like for example here:

    Detection and Removal
    Manual Removal
Follow these steps to remove Casalemedia from your machine. Begin by backing up your registry and your system, and/or setting a Restore Point, to prevent trouble if you make a mistake.
I would like to know if it's ok or not, to have casalemedia around.

I just don't need anyone to tell me to change my browser because, that's not an option for now.

ALL I care to know is if casalemedia is or is not, what they say on the sites I found on Google.

they are a canadian ad network one of the most highly regarded doing mostly CPM but as well as CPC campaigns.

they have a very friendly staff - they even send hand written cards to all of their members on christmas.

and also they have very high payouts but very limited inventory.

lately as the most networks have done they promote spyware banners.

thats a little but i hope helpfull comment.

I think CasaleMedia is just a CPM network similar to FastClick...

Looking at the security site you linked to, I see it says:

Category Tracking Cookie: Any cookie that is shared among two or more web pages for the purpose of tracking a user's surfing history.
It seems that the "threat page" you saw is just another fear-mongering place making it seem like cookies are something bad.

As for the removal, it should clear like any other tracking cookie. They probably say that scary "back up your registry" stuff for everything. I notice they never did say what to do NEXT! Maybe that's because "simply clear your cookies" is too much of a letdown after their comments about the registry.

After I made the post, I rebooted my computer and did a total system check.

    No problem found.

So whether that ad network is safe or not, I won't have nothing to worry about as long as a keep my security settings the way I do.

Other than a Full Moon on a Friday night, I guess there was nothing else for me to worry about.

    Thanks for the replies.
