    Need A Cheap FTP Program
I'm looking for a cheap/free FTP program that allows me to do such commands as CHMOD. Does anybody have suggestions?

(I currently have WS_FTP Pro on my desktop, but they want to charge $50 for me to install it on my laptop. I'm only going to be using FTP on my laptop for the next month or two, so I'd rather go a cheaper route).

    Thanks in advance.

30 day trial but after the 30 days are up you can continue to use it. You are just nagged about it for 30 secounds.

I have used coffeecup in the past and it was free and did everything my WS Pro does. It displays CoffeeCup ads on the free version, but is fully functional.

Not sure if it will suit, but Leech FTP is free, stable, and very useful.

The first time I ever tried to FTP (years ago) I ended up crying all night. Someone suggested I get CuteFTP and I've used it since, being too stupid to figure out how to use any of the others.

It's drag and drop and is as easy as Windoze to navigate to folders. Does everything, and it's idiot proof.

    Filezila
Check Out Filezilla - a GPL program available at sourceforge.net:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

It's totally free, rock solid (and development is still continuing, so it's not in some abandoned state), and it supports direct type-ins by going to the Server/Enter Raw FTP Command (ctrl-F)

I've been using it for quite a while an it has never let me down.

I second the vote for Filezilla, I have used WS_FTP Pro for years and love it, but don't want to pay for it on every computer in the house, so they all have Filezilla. For some uploading it is actually faster than WS_FTP PRO!

I basically only use WS becasue it has ALL my sites urls passwords etc in it and I am lazy and don't want to look them up and add them to a new program!

Go for ws_ftp, the best on the market.

If you type an ftp:// URI into Safari, it'll open up a fresh window that you can drag files to and from that window to/from any location on your computer.

    It comes with the OS.

Or you can fire up a terminal window and use SCP which alleviates the possibity of someone between you and your server sniffing your user/pass.

    I use FTP Surfer - http://www.whispertech.com/surfer/

Free and does the job. As easy to use as CuteFTP.

I decided to try Filezilla. I prefer the WS_FTP Pro interface, but other than the difference in the interface, I have no complaints. So far, it has been a good substitution. Thanks for the recommendation.
