eBay Editor Kit Featured on Froogle
I was just looking for something in Froogle, and noticed at the bottom of each page appeared the eBay Editor Kit Results with the first three items.

Now would this be eBay paying to advertise on Froogle, or would this be Google earning affiliate commissions from eBay?

How strange. No matter what product I search for, it happens for me:

    http://froogle.google.com/froogle?hl...Search+Froogle

    Nope on that one.

    Maybe scan for adware?

I just scanned, and all I had was 72 tracking cookies. I deleted them, and went back and did another search on Froogle. I'm still seeing the eBay listings at the bottom of every page. This is too weird. Does anybody else see them?

Well, I just looked at the source code, and the tracking id is:

    track=711-5256-8196-10

which doesn't look like a CJ id.

I'm not seeing anything, either. I wonder if it's a regional thing?

One thing I've figured out is that it happens in Internet Explorer, but it doesn't happen in Foxfire. What browsers are you guys using?

    Here's the screenshots:

Does eBay have a new BHO their sponsoring to hawk Froogle, Shopping.com, bizrate, Amazon and Yahoo store listings???

Okay, I just went and deleted all my cookies. And now it is gone. So it wasn't adware but it was a cookie I picked up somewhere that was creating the results. The funny thing is it only did it on Froogle. It didn't do it when I did searches on Google.

I don't like this at all.

How does a cookie do that?
I'm having trouble trying to figure out how a cookie can do that. Seems to me there has to be something else involved. How can a cookie file present ads? If the ads are not coming from the froogle server, they must be coming from another server somewhere. If the browser only sends a http request to froogle, and froogle is not interested in the cookie, how did the other server get in on the action?

I'm not seeing how a cookie could do that either. Do you have ebay's toolbar tracy (not saying it would cause that..just asking).

The screenshots look like something an outside source would place on the page and not the way Froogle would put something on their pages for Ebay themselves.

Can you pull up from your history one of those pages and see if the ebay stuff still shows from there? If so, I'd be more than happy to get a PM for the source code of the page.

it may not be relevant, but there is another source for eBay links in the kit besides CJ.

I do not have any toolbars from any site loaded on my machine ... eBay, google, alexa ... none of them.

I saw the results after I ran adaware. However, when I went to the IE Tools> Internet Options> Delete Cookies, and deleted all cookies, then went back to Froogle and did a search it went away.

I went into my history for yesterday, when I first noticed this, and hit each Froogle link. Nada. No search results.

I guess I can go through my history, going back day by day, to see what site I might have visited that did this. But, that's a heck of a lot of links.

It's just scary that this can happen with a cookie, if that's what did it.
