Jeremy Jaynes, 9 years for Spam
Wow... didn't see a thread about this yet but...wow..

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4426949.stm

So is 9 years too much, too little? Can he still operate from behind bars...

    Cheers

I am not sure what happens from here Chris but I would love to see his buisness seized, liquidated and bank accounts also seized and all monies applied to fighting spam, adware, spyware and any other kind of internet parasite.

anyone know his email then I can spam him with vaseline adverts? LOL

I agree all his ill gotten gains should be stripped from him.

The figures he was reputedly earning from doing this crap $75,000.00 per month are mind blowing no?

That would certainly be a bonus and a lesson to everyone else....

I'm pretty sure that with the kind of jail he will end up in that he'll have access to Internet too... not sure I believe he'll "never do this again"

I think he meant "never do this again from within the USA, or at least not do it myself... wink wink nudge nudge "

    cheers

Most likely possibilty would be to follow in Spamford's shoes and just move right over into the spyware/adware biz. Not a good thing to send spam through VA, they really hate spam.

Gordon, I think you mis-typed. It was $750,000 a month. That IS a heck of a lot of $$.

This is good news. Spammers have been using made-up names at my url for several months now. Every day I'm bombarded with their bounced emails. Hope the word gets out and scares the crap out of them.

A few more successful convictions like this, and hopefully spam will be a thing of the past.

I think 9 years is a ridiculously long, unjust, "make an example of him" sentence! It's awful that they would lock a guy up that long for BS when they let some murderers and armed robbers out sooner! WTF--if someone kills you or sticks you up, that's okay, just as long as you aren't inconvenienced beforehand? Sometimes this country really has its priorities on backwards.

I do think he deserves punishment, but more along the lines of what Dreamie said, "I would love to see his buisness seized, liquidated and bank accounts also seized and all monies applied to fighting spam, adware, spyware and any other kind of internet parasite." He could also be forced to do "community service" of a spam-fighting variety on top of that.

No I'm not a spammer (before someone accuses me of it), but I am outraged over the seemingly arbitrary sentencing some courts come up with. That cell would be put to much better use holding someone who's committed a worse crime than that!

Truth? I think they are locking him up for so long not because of what he did but because of his success at doing it. If he made $3,000 a month at it, they would have called him bad and told him to stay off the computer for a while.

I agree Leader. I find it upsetting that someone can beat their kid severely and get less jail time than this guy got. I also agree with Dreamie though. Don't get me wrong, I hate spam as much as anyone else (not profitting from it ), but I can't see this as a reasonable jail time when there are much worse crimes being committed for much less punishment.

So the only solution is for you to lobby your government people into extending the shorter sentences not reducing this assoles sentence.

As far as I'm concerned he got what he deserved and I hope they get many more.

Roll on when the get the parasite and unethical Network owners, they deserve life without paroll suspended neck deep in a vat of sloppy crap. Once a day they will be released to eat their daily ration of stale bread and dirty water then will be put to hard labour for 1 hour then back to the crap they created in the first place LOL what a life for that type of scum

Oh I forgot and anytime Bubba feels a stong sexual need he is allowed to use them free of charge. LOL

Red face Think of our jail system
9 years might be to much but with good behavior he will be out in 3 with some probation. So in that respect it is a fair senece. I still think they should treat the spammers the way they do drug dealers. Seize all assets and put them to use for fighting spam, and parasites. That will hurt a lot more than jail time. Also a part of his probation should be that he has to help fight the spam and parasites that hit not just affiliates but also the regular everyday users. Try helping people get off of mailing list that just don't want to let you go. Cleaning out the pcs of trojans, and other parasite ware.

At least I think and would hope that would help rehabilitate him and show him the errors of his ways.

I think there is a little more to the story than 9 years for sending spam.
By selling sham products and services advertised in his messages, he earned up to $750,000 per month.
If the sentence was just for spamming, then yes, 9 years would seem unreasonably high. But he was selling and making a huge profit off bogus products and services. That's fraud and I'm sure he had quite a lot of victims to have raked in that much cash.

If he had been using the U.S. Postal System to hawk his sham wares, he would have received a much stiffer sentence. The only difference I see is that his overhead was a lot lower since he didn't have to buy any stamps.

Here's the punishment I'd like to see implemented for spammers worldwide:

One day of community service -- for every email sent.

Plus a complete liquidation of all assets in which proceeds are used to enhance the Internet infrastructure they've helped to destroy.

Spam is one of the most destructive forces on the Internet, costing us all tens of billions annually. Any constructive penalty like those above is helpful, the more eggregious the better.

How about having all the different spam filtering programs set up a link to forward any and all spam caught by them to any and all email addresses he ever attempts to set up?!

On top of the sentence the government should confiscate all his assets plus prohibit him from having any access to a PC for life, courts prohibit hackers from accessing PC's, why not spammers.

    Cool
    Everybody feeling sorry for him...
Don't worry he will be eligible for parole in a year..
probably get it for "GOOD BEHAVIOUR" The original sentence is ALWAYS negotiable. He wil dust off some bibles in the prison library and be called a "MODEL INMATE"

I just wish that they would do something about ADWARE...

Imagine if ADWARE was on Television..

You sit down to watch a good "FAMILY MOVIE" with the kids...
Your channel changes to a porn channel and you cannot change the channel back.. Then it skips over to an infomercial about viagra.. and you can't do anything about it.. SO you turn the TV OFF.. The next time you turn your TV on.. That Porn Channel is the only channel you get now..

Just imagine how FAST the world would react to THAT...
BUT it's the same thing on a PC.. you sit down to help little Billy with his homework.. you do a search for History.. and get a dozen ADWARE pop-ups about PORN and ADULT material..

I THINK THAT THIS IS A GOOD START IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION >>>
