April 17th, 2005, 12:46 PM #1Link Exchange
It's time for me to take Trusts and the others advice and find out if the link exchange system will work I have a couple sites that have no recips other than my own sites. This will be a good experiment for me to see what happens w/exchanging links if anyone is interested. I have a couple of children related sites. Both have PR's 3. Both use to be in the top 5 for awesome search terms.
I'd like to keep the link exchange relevant and also on the entrance pages. If not I suppose I could build a link page and do it like that. Anyone with childrens sites such as party supply's that would like to try some link exchanges drop me a PM. Thanks all Also any suggestions are always welcome as usual.

I think you are on the right track Packy.
If your plan is to get a bunch of recip links, then I suggest a page devoted to the links. It's pretty much an accepted practice to do it this way.
If you want to get, say fifty, recip links it wouldn't be practical to have those on your entrance page(s). 50 links will help a lot, but 200 would be even better.
Advice.... don't name your page 'links'. Use something like 'partners' or some such. Make the page accessible from the index page in one click. Put some of your interior pages on the page with the links to others.
Choose your link partners carefully, but be careful not to be too restrictive. You want the sites to be relevant, but not so narrow that you limit your prospets.
When you have started to get some link partners...vary the destination URL of your link on the other site. Don't always link to your index. Point some links to your interior pages.
Check your links frequently. Both the ones on your pages, but those linking to you.
You'll do well.
(edited to add)...almost forgot. One of the most important features of the link on the other site is your anchor text. Make sure you put your most important kw (or whatever you want to rank for) in there.

Thanks for the advice. I see youedited what I was just going to ask you Is it best to have the link, then a description of the site? EX:
Baby Names (linked to site)
"Find the perfect baby name and see what the meaning of the name is"
Thanks again Frank! Be back a bit later, off to rid a friends comp of spyware

Great Idea! I have watched in the past where everyone is scared to release their url for fear that someone will copy their site. What's better? working with fellow affilates or parasites? It's a known fact that the more links you have the better the SE placement.

When you are surfing around for link partners you'll surely come upon one that is revelant that has an automatic recip program where you must link to them first.
These sites will almost always have a text area for you to fill out. The captions for the text areas are pretty standard stuff and self explanatory.
With one exception.... there will be a blank and the caption will say "Web Page Title". Don't put website.com in that box. Instead put your kw (Baby Names) in there. Took me quite a while to figure this one out. ;}
If you get a fair amount of traffic, you might consider putting up a 'link to us' page. You should also consider putting up a recommend us link.
In both cases use the anchor link as your desired ranking word(s). Like this
That's my $20 linking lesson for today. Visitors should recognize that these are my experiences and your results may vary. Batteries not included. The FDA has not tested these items for human consumption.

Don't forget to check DMOZ and the top SERP results for potential link exchanges. I think it's very unlikely you'll find an ideal relevant partner on ABW. You have to search everywhere. When you find a site that fits, you'll know it. Hard part is getting a response from them. Just gotta send lots of emails and keep working at it.

Thanks all once again for the feedback I agree about being careful. I've had to send a few emails to sites that weren't appropriate for mine to tell them to get my links off their sites. So far they have. I'll keep looking for other means of linking Scott and thanks.
Justdoit, I'm gone most of the day tomorrow. Kids are on vaction here and as much as I dread Golfing I told my youngest son I would take him tomorrow. OK, I really love golfing and it will be a super day away from the comp. Anyways, I'll drop ya a PM later in the day. Thanks again all!
