    Can affiliates do this?
    Hi,
I'm new with all this affiliate stuff and Please forgive me if my question is too obvious. I have an affiliate that has put a foward file on his website so that our website (the merchant) shows up (still though with his website domain showing in the address bar). Can anyone please advise... is this proper?
    Thanks!

Some affiliates do that to prevent adware from popping up. Some merchants allow it, some don't. I know JCWhitney and Overstock do. So basically it's up to you.

Ok Thanks Neil, then I hope he will have the answer. Yes I have a merchant account, I'm only signed up recently... Not sure what you mean about not posting more often, I will be happy to stick around though!

Hmmm. But when I click on his website link in my affiliate manager, I was a bit surprised to see My website (my entire website and only my website - with his url showing. I just want to make sure that this is on the up and up with ShareASale, and I also don't want it to effect my SEO negatively. Thanks Victoria.

I would be very careful allowing that.

The intention (most likely) is to get customers to bookmark their site when they think they're bookmarking yours. Then, when the customer comes back to the bookmark, they get affiliate credit.

Be careful that they're not forcing clicks. If their EPC is considerably lower than your average EPC, they probably are. This isn't good for you (because it will lower your network EPC) or for other affiliates (because it can overwrite other affiliate's cookies).

It can also create customer service issues, in several ways:

    1) If your checkout is secure, it will not show a "Lock" on the screen since they are framing your site.
    2) If a customer has a problem, there could be some confusion about whether they should contact your or your affiliate.

    vkap,

I'll need to know the details such as your account, the affiliate's ID or website so I can find them, etc... Can you email me or PM me those details.... (don't post them here)
    Thanks,

I have set up the program as a commission basis, if they make a sale, they get a commission, so hopefully that excludes me from some of these other problems.

Brian thanks for the quick reply. I have sent an email with the affiliates id and his website URL, and a second email with my merchant id and info.

    (I can't send PMs since I'm a newbie!)

Didn't the affiliate get your permission before copying your site?

No he did not get permission to do this. It appears to be fowarding on his domain name to my domain name, but the only difference is that I see his URL in the address area.

Anyway, I will await Brians reply to see what to do about this.

To echo Neil, there are good merchants and not so good..! It should help you greatly to stop in regularly and show an interest in the affiliate's end of this maze. (*smile*) I have
affiliated with some pretty great merchants based on their appreciation of our, the affiliate's, wants and needs.

I suggest you search ABW for the key words "cookie stuffing" and read and digest what the "tricks for cookie setting clicks" crowd will do to make sure they get paid for doing nothing. Look over their real site and if it sucks for any and all merchants on the value-add smell test ...give them a boot... as it will never improve.

    vkap,
With all due respect, until you know a little more about how affiliates can use tricks to gain commissions they do not rightfully deserve, I would suggest not allowing this.
This will keep the playing field level for your other affiliates and will keep your program attractive to all affiliates.
