Merchants - Advice for new merchants on SAS?
We are considering signing up as a Merchant with ShareASale. And realize there are quite a few experienced SAS merchants on this forum and hope you could give advice to a newcomer.

What merchant features are important to attract quality affiliates?
Name 3 things merchantes must do to be successful with their affiliate program?
What incentives do you setup for affiliates (i.e. avg commission rate)?
What pitfalls should I avoid for my affiliate program?
Any other info you would like to share would be appreciated!

    Many thanks

Advice on getting an affiliate program going...
We manage a few affiliate programs and from experience can offer you the following advice:

    1) Competitors: Check out what your competition is offering and up the ante. Affiliates will be more loyal to you if you can offer them higher incentives.

    2) Responsive: Answer your emails within minutes. Everyone in the Internet space moves at warp speed. You need to keep your affiliates interested and engaged in promoting your wears. More specifically, provide as many creatives as you possibly can. The more more choice you offer the better off you'll be. As Wayne Gretzky would say, "If you don't shoot, you don't score!" So shoot off as many different promotional tools as you possibly can.

    3) Keep it Honest: Once you set a commission structure stick to it. DO NOT lower commissions whatever you do. You'll have many unhappy campers. Also, for phone sales, set up the tracking code your site (SAS can provide you with this snippet).

That's my 2 cents for now...

    Autodeposit!
Definitely go on autodeposit to show your affiliates you are serious about your affiliate program! This should be a requirement - #1 complaint from affiliates!

    Cheers and Welcome!

Do you think it will be turn-off to affiliates that my store's currency is in CDN dollars?

I'm thinking of a per-sale commission structure. Typically what is the appropriate percentage of commission or should I go with a flat rate structure (i.e. 1.00/sale)?

How much time do you devote in a week managing your affiliates?

What type of creative's do you offer? (Dimensions of graphics?)

    Many thanks everyone...

    Iuse American Dollars
We are located in Canada, and all items are posted in US dollars. Most of our business is American so it is more convenient to run our store this way. Most canadians understand this and pay the US amount. Conversion is done automatically with the credit card companies.

Psychologically, the Canadian price will look much more because of the lower value when compared to the US dollar. That may discourage American buyers.

    Cheers,

Start considering tracking orders by phone. I haven't visited your site, but if you have your customer service number posted on your pages then you would want to assure your affiliates that no commissions are lost through phone conversations.

    What an affiliate needs
    What I would do is

Make sure your set on auto Deposit and let ALL new and potential affiliates know it.

STAY IN TOUCH with your affiliates, make sure you send out a monthly newsletter

    Add a data feed

Set your account on the privacy waiver ( this is for you) then you will be able to have the affiliate info which I feel is important

Approve affiliates as soon as you can

Have a wide choice of links both banners and text links. If a affiliate wants a dif one... give it to him

LONG life cookies, at least 6 months

Make sure your prices and commissions are competitive

Seek out affiliates, don't just take the ones SAS gives you

    Try and enjoy!!
