Lightbulb Is PageRank down/up at the moment?
2:48AM ET here - PR doesn't show up for any sites. Just a grey bar for everybody.

Wouldn't bother me one bit if it stayed like that.

When we looked at our logs for our sites, we found that googlebot had done a thorough scrape of our sites. We're only seeing PR on our pages with no affiliate links. I wonder if they are finally doing what they said they would do and penalizing for too many affiliate links on a page. I posted an article about this awhile back:

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=58064

I hope that's not the case though. It's tough seeing a bunch of PR 4s get grey barred....

Can anyone recommend a Google PR checker? (I uninstalled the Google toolbar.)

I've tried several I found through search listings and none of them seems to work. Wondering if Google found a way to prevent these checkers from getting info.

Scared the heck out of me when I saw that all my sites had a gray bar, but I felt a little better when I saw that DMOZ and Google suffered the same fate!
But are you still master of your domain?

I highly doubt it, considering what NewcastleB said!

It's funny to see Google with the gray bar, though...

There is a PR checker plugin for firefox that works and is unobtrusive.

It's down. This is what I usually get from the Google servers in my sniffer logs:

This is what I just got when going to Google.com (I edited out my IP address):

"I wonder if they are finally doing what they said they would do and penalizing for too many affiliate links on a page."

Stop being paranoid. All sites are getting the grey bar, not just affiliate sites. Penalized sites are white barred anyway.

It's either a glitch/problem and they're working on it or what i said in my first post in this thread last time this happened:

    http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread...light=stanford

"I did read in an article about Google dropping that (pagerank) because Stanford still had the patent on that and Google not want to pay them when they IPO. Something like that, can't remember, probably just speculation."

PageRank is dead. Just kidding, probably just a glitch

Google is undergoing a huge update (called bourbon at Webmasterworld) for quite some days now.

This could be a PR update as part of the re-indexing.

Three very large threads created for the Bourbon update so far.

I read somewhere that they are replacing pagerank with trustrank or something.

    I don't know.

I hate google but their stock just keeps going up.

    Makes me so mad.

    There's a pagerank checker here: http://www.top25web.com/pagerank.php

but every site is coming up as PR 0 right now. If the same results are appearing in toolbars, must mean no PRs are being assigned while the update is going on.

Interesting, I was still seeing page rank for most sites I visited, including Google and Yahoo.... Maybe my browser cache.... And anyway, they 'did' say that too many affiliate links could look bad for a site. Of course, who knows how many are too many. I only have about 20 per page anyway!

So I wonder what will become of pagerank when they get it all fixed up...???
