    Hey all-

As a new member to the forum, I wanted to announce that United Online (aka NetZero and Juno) has dropped WhenU from their program on CJ, effective 7 days.

As the new AM, I would encourage any publisher to forward relevant information to us through our CJ channels.

    Hi Keith!

    WTG and welcome to ABW

BTW I was one of the first 100 users of Juno way back when In 94-95, free email was sooo radical compared to Prodigy's 10 cents per message

Anyway, welcome to the center of the affiliate marketing universe!

    Way to go, Keith!

I'm so glad that people like you are beginning to see this whole parasite business for what it is: taking advantage of people. Yes, maybe people do opt-in for the software, but it seems a big percentage of them don't understand exactly what it is they're getting when they agree to the terms.

Maybe it is their fault for not taking the time to read everything, but the company extending the offer is more guilty for knowing this and taking advantage of it.

Thanks for doing the right thing!

    Andy

    Thanks for the support everyone!

There is some good reading here. Almost information overload.

NetZero and Juno are consumer brands offered by United Online. The products are identical, just branded differently with georgraphial preferences.

We still offer free internet services, a dial up service for 9.95 a month, and just launched "Accelerated" dial up (up to 5x faster than dial up) for $14.95 a month.

We are the leading ISP provider over CJ and also utilize BeFree.

Drop me a line if you ever need anything.

I'd rather push the 9.95 ISP service with you guys then ever put up an AOL banner. Glad your not allowing WhenU's hidden in a bundle on the P2P network installs drain your sales commission budget.

    Keith,

You may want to talk with Cj about one of their affiliate partners (which you have dropped) popping up ads on your site. Granted the pop up did not contain and affiliate link, but whenu still has affiliate status with Cj, the very "trusted" 3rd party who is providing services for your program.

    Thanks Ms. B-

Very interesting to see this. What is required by the user to see the ad? Is it WhenU that has dropped a cookie and the Copper.net pops up when our site is called? There are a few browser windows open in your screen shot and just trying to make sure it is related to ours. Thanks and I'll follow up.

    Keith,

The pop up was elicited when I typed in NetZero into my browser. It was a new browser screen. The other browser windows had been open and are various ABW screens. I was checking merchants for the parasite free merchant list.

When elicits there pop ups a few ways. There is a database that Whenu installs on the end users computer which they update on a pretty continous basis. Mine is close is around 5Mb in size now. In the past you could open it and read it with a text editor. This is no longer the case. However, it is the information in the db which lets the SaveNow application know when to activate. Previously the information in the db was actual urls and then an extensive list of keywords. Activation by the keywords seemed to be related to the actual page content that was loaded by the surfer. Since I'm no longer able to read the db, I can't say for certain if it's the content of your site or if your specific url is being targeted. I have seen no indication that cookies being set on the end users computer is what activates whenu.

The pop for copper.net was a straight pure play ad, that is not an affiliate link for whenu.

Hope that helps. If you need more information, please let me know.

Keith ...just send out a newletter to all your Juno/Netzero subscribers telling them you do not serve up popup advertising as part of their service. Then point them to www.parasiteware.com to detect if they have parasitic adware programs installed on their systems ...and the cures.

I'm sure Juno/Netzero are making the same moves to protect their customers from spammers and Adwarez as those being taken by AOL -MSN -Earthlink and others.
