Question Number of Affiliates with SaS
I wonder how merchants can tell know how many affiliates are registered with SaS, and how many of them are active affiliates. I see how affiliates can view the number and details of registered SaS merchants. As a merchant I would like to know the number of affiliates. I understand that affiliate details is something that SaS would not disclose and that is okay. What about the numbers?

    Thanks.

it is common knowledge that a very high % of affiliates just sign-up and then don't do any work. lots sign then leave your program until they can fit it in.
I am very aware of the way they work.

as merchants, we will never fully understand them, as we are not on that side of the fence..

strange, but wonderful creatures those affiliate animals..

let me give you some examples:

    first we have the

GORDON species: native to the shores of the UK. but can be found wondering the wilderness of Canada,, A very temperamental creature,
and has the venom of a python,, if he is confronted he will attack violently..
recommendation:: fun friendly animal, but will bite.

    then we have the.........
ok just one species at a time.. I will post another one soon....
watch-out you affiliate animals..I could be profiling you next

    though I do like them....

    Geno,

We don't give out that number... (number of total affiliates). It is also fairly un-important as an overall number - as it isn't a barometer for success or failure of an affiliate program.

Why do you not give out this number? Wouldn't it be something to attract the new/potential merchants by?

If I told you we have 300 Million affiliates....would that help you grow your programs?

My point is that it isn't important how many are part of this network or that network.... you can have great success no matter where you are located (network wise) if you have the correct mix of quality programs/products, good AM, and true desire to make the AM channel a profitable one for you.

We have merchants that currently have 10s of 1000s of affiliates in their program. We have others that have less than 100.
    Thanks,

I think the answer Brian did give is pretty revealing. If SAS has merchants with tens of thousands of affiliates, I think it's a safe bet that SAS itself has more than that themselves. That's enough to show that they're not a fly-by-night network.

Even the big networks only have a few thousand affiliates that earn enough to get a check each month. I would assume that many of the big affiliates are on SAS as well.

Just my honest opinion about giving those numbers away.

It all depends on why, who and what would I do once I know those numbers if I am an affiliate or if I am a merchant.

If I am a merchant and I see that network X have 1million affiliates, I may like to join that network because I may get many of those 1 million affiliates to join my program and eventually grow faster on that network.

If I am an affiliate looking <-- --> around for new merchants and see that a merchant that I may want to join on that network may already have more than 10 thousands affiliates on their program, I may just not even bother to check out their program.

So I think, there are times when it's better not to know all of the details until we try each other out first.

FYI, I split the off-topic Russian Wives discussion off to a new thread in the A Best Web Virtual Family forum.

    Geno, just read your e-mail.

Here is a hint. You just can't make things too easy for people. If you want them to download your datafeed, try to include a link right in the e-mail that they can download the feed from. Also, include your merchant ID number (ID: 6273) for those who download using FTP access to get the feed. That way they don't have to go to SAS and look it up. They just open their FTP program, go to folder 6273 and grab your feed.

The easier you make it the more effective.

Sandra, thank you for the hint. I do want to make it as easy as possible. However, don't affiliates have to first apply for FTP access (before they can "open their FTP program, go to folder 6273 and grab your feed")?
