Exclamation Merchant is seeing porno referring urls
I have a merchant that just emailed me through CJ and told me that they are getting referring url's from my ppc ads of a pornographic origin. These ads are all directly linked to the merchants site, without a stop-over on any of my websites. They asked me for an explaination and of course I have none. Can anyone tell me how this can occur? Obvously, it's not adware originating from me since all ads are PPC and directly linked to the Merchant. Also, the merchant went on to explain, that most of the referring porno domains were parked. I am lost for what to say to the merchant. This Merchat has requested some dates etc. from CJ. Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe you ads are showing in the "content network" meaning not just next to the SERPS but also on sites.

But what could cause this is I was also on sites? Perhaps an adware whore lives on the site that my ads are being displayed on? Then the ad whore software generates click on my ads using parked porn domains?

Which PPCSE are your ads through? It could be the parking service is signed up the the PPCSE and your ads are coming up. Depending how it is coded into the page, it might show the parked porn domain as the referrer? It would be more help if they provided you with a couple of the problem referrer domains to see what exactly is happening on those pages.

These ads are through GoClick and the merchat siad they researtched the ads and that they are mostly parked domains. So maybe you are right about the parked being signed up with GoClick.. I have several examples of the referring domains. They are all PHP... I am half afraid to open one up to examine the source code. The mechant claimed that most had no content at all..

GoClick ads wind up in lots of places.

If you want, pm me a couple of the URL's. I'm fearless and will open about anything. I'm just selective about where I open things up at.

    Try
wget -dsS --user-agent="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1" YOUR_PPC_URL
And see all redirects in details

Your fearless Ms.B and must use a BHO magnet or fly paper to delve onto the relm of the commission sheisters. Sounds like a PPCSE direct to merchant playa should be skilled enough to know the goClick and FindWhat -Knoodle junk traffic games. They syndicate your keyword bucks to parked porno names, exit traffic pops, all the BHO's and expired traffic sites. QTY of cookies set by these enities sure makes the contextual keywords just a secondary business when using the PPCSE's desire to just drain accounts. They probably float 1/2 the keywords on junk traffic and pray some real shoppers click a few ads.

    Thumbs down
GoClick = junk. I did a $25 test through there a few months ago, sending traffic to my own site, hoping for results like Overture used to be able to provide when it was GoTo (and cheap).

I didn't see any porno referrers, but the clicks they sent came from Europe and ex-Soviet countries! They didn't seem to even have any US traffic. Maybe a couple of clicks worth, no exaggeration. Of course, that's worthless when promoting US-ship-only merchants.

Needless to say, I didn't refill that account when it ran out.

I'm curious to see if any PPCSE ads are getting forced clicked on those domains.

    Same Here!!
I used $50. ($25. + $25. Free) I got almost no hits (to my website) at all, my money was gone in less than 3 days.
I will never use them again.

Glad to see the divine Ms B involved!

fwiw, this sounds remarkably similar to something I saw a few months back in our logs - Ms B sorted it out.

Ms B, is it possible same or similar thing is happening here? hould that be the case, the merchant involved here is more than welcome to contact me, or vice versa and happy to set things straight.

I'll go back and look at what exactly happened with your stuff David (refresh my memory). Although the stuff in your case was an active site and not a parked domain. There's quite a bit of nonsense that goes on with some of the parked domains.

I'm glad to see Merchants like David and evidently the one Airstrip is dealing with that don't just jump to conclusions but take the time to research and figure out what is going on.

Could this be as simple as the merchants computer is infected with a certain piece spyware, He wouldn't see the redirects. Just a thought

I am the merchant involved in this mess. The referring urls that I provided were given from the Commission Junction interface for this account within the last 30 days. I clicked on all the links on a clean machine and all but 4 showed what appears to be parked domain search engine traffic. The 4 that were different had more content than I cared to view and I don't understand why those resulted in a referring click. I haven't heard anything back from Commission Junction yet as what they thought. On a computer we have recently set up to run simple testing I tried to find a solution but I have come up empty so far. I do not understand it that is why I asked.

    Hi Sarah,

Sorry that you're dealing with this, but glad to hear it's you also. I know you really try to sort this kind of stuff out.

Since you are seeing those URL's in the CJ referral information, I don't think it is the same thing that happened with David. If you want to pm me some of the URL's I'll go take a look. It sounds like GoClick may be syndicating out their listings to those parked sites. I suppose some actual physical clicks could be happening, but they may well be doing forced clicks on those pages. Click fraud is high with PPCSE's. I can go to the URL's and grab the source code for the pages.

I had used the free startup and $25 of my own too, but I hadn't counted their $25 when I made my other post.

Your experience is even worse than when I tried them. But I had strongly suspected bots were behind my so-called "clicks." After all, an ad that says US SHIPPING ONLY right in it should not have generated all that overseas interest--if any.

The URL's have been truncated by CJ, so the actual referring page isn't known. Just the domain. But I may still be able to get to the bottom of it.
