    Question What are spiders/robots??
I launched my site last weekend, and I have noticed that 6 spiders/robots have visited my site in one week. 2 days after launch, LinkWalker, Google, The World Wide Web Worm, visited. Then over the weekend MSNBot, Alexa, and AskJeeves did the same thing. What does this mean? Is it a good thing or a bad thing? Can some help me out with this?

    Thanks

Spiders are computer algorithms that search your site looking for information and links to other sites.

MSNbot is the spider for MSN.com

googlebot is the spider for Google.com

slurp is the spider for Yahoo.com

Search engine spiders are a good thing. That's how your site gets listed in free search engines.

Some spiders look for e-mail addresses to add to spam lists. Oviously, those are not good spiders.

I always thought that a spam spider was something that you found in a luncheon meat sandwich

Thanks Tech Evangelist....At least it's a good thing. But you didn't mention anything on Alexa. Who is she? I thought it would take at least 6 months or longer to get noticed by these people.

    Thanks again

Sweatpea, alexa is operated by Amazon.com. You can visit them at www.alexa.com. They measure your site's popularity by how many people with their toolbar installed visit your site. Thent hey rank you against every other site.

Alexa is also a good one.
