I live in Polk County, Florida, and last year we saw the eye of three out of four hurricanes. But, I'd rather live with the hurricanes than get anywhere near earthquakes.

I used to live in San Diego for a few years. The first quake I experienced scared the living whiz out of me, but after a few more one kinda get's complacent about it. It is a weird feeling as one usually takes solid ground for granted. Once it shakes all normal orientation is lost, difficult to explain to someone who has not experienced it.

I now live in South-East Asia, and we still get them from time to time, lately off Sumatra (where the major tsunami originated from)...

I find earthquakes rather ho-hum. But I'm staying away from those hurricanes.

I'm kinda glad we have earthquakes. California is too crowded and expensive as it is. Without them everyone would live here.

USGS Real-time Forecast of Earthquake Hazard in the Next 24 Hours:

    http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/step/

This is a time-dependent map giving the probability of strong shaking at any location in California within the next 24-hours. For this purpose, “strong shaking” is defined as Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) IV, or the level of shaking that throws objects off shelves.
