June 22nd, 2005, 12:33 PM #1Goopal? - Google online payment system
Schmidt spoke after several days of heated speculation over reports that Google was working on a potential rival to PayPal, eBay's popular online payment system.
Schmidt said Google does not intend to offer a "person-to-person stored-value payments system" like PayPal's, in which money briefly resides in PayPal's control during the transaction, but he did not give details of how the Google system would differ.
"The payment services we are working on are a natural evolution of Google's existing online products and advertising programs, which today connect millions of consumers and advertisers," Schmidt told Reuters in a brief telephone interview in which he declined to elaborate.
"We believe that e-commerce can be improved and we are working on ways to improve the user experience," Schmidt said. The company declined to say when a product would be available.

Froogle has been there for too long doing very little... eventually it's got to turn into something and that will shake things up rather radically.

I'd guess like Chris, but they wouldn't need a payment system for that...

Apparently Googlites have been hobnobbing with certain merchants/Affiliate Managers in the past.........I think it would only be natural for them to become affiliates.....
Think of how much sense it makes......Adsense for Commissions, why get 72 cents a click when they can get 20% of the sale?
Sounds like a no brainer to me......That would be the equivilant to a Nuclear bomb in the affiliate world.....we would all be smoked.

Yes you're right... it would make a huge impact on the industry and merchants would flock to Google because of the shear volume they can provide.
