    Thumbs down Is this guy a site scraper and 302 domain poisoner
    I'm trying to get to reasons for traffic drops to EcomCity and came across a site scrapper using exit pops. www.http://www.learn-about-your-camera.com/ (view his source code) First hint he might also be employing 302 page poisioning came from reading http://clsc.net/research/google-302-page-hijack.htm#006 and seeing Google results showing my page title -desc but this wanks links in the SERPs. I assume this might just be one of hundreds of domains he hosts on exitexchange servers.

    New domain whois info....

    another similar site scraper and 302 page poisoner creating dup content penalities is this wank ... www.furniture-table-chair-directory.com also pushing Adwords from scrapped content and PHP generated keyword spam page.. http://www.furniture-table-chair-dir...m/site-map.php

    This exact template and other similar keyword domain names target affiliate sites too with their scrapers. The Whois is always the same HIDDEN.

    These frauds seems to have lots of brand new domains with no PR and scrapped content to get exit traffic revenue and bilk Adwords using Bots to generate keyword content. How can we proceed to shut down these thieves and stop them from poisoning our SERPs?

    I went to that first link - http://www.http//www.learn-about-your-camera.com/ - "The page cannot be displayed" "can not find server"

    The furniture link worked. I thought the Adsense terms states that publishers can not put more than one adsense ad on a page? if that is true, then this person is violating.

    That link is very messed up. I don't want to give scum any PR, so here's an inactive (but correct) version you can paste into your browser (take the quotes away):

    "http://www.learn-about-your-camera.com/"

    BTW AdSense terms have been updated. Now you can plaster 3 ad panels on a page.

    Being '302' hijacked sucks totally. I 'lost' my PR7 site in Google in June/04 to a highjacker. After reading for hours about this problem in WW, I emailed G about my problem this March. They actually de-indexed the highjacking site soon afterwards. (it had no real content/ only an attempted spyware or virus install as far as I could tell.
    My site is now indexed in Google but dont think it will ever get back to where it was...
    There are however a few things people can do to help protect their sites before bad things happen.

    I got so sick of seeing crap like this I stopped looking at serps for mysite a few weeks/month ago. I shot off a couple of emails to a couple of AM's about the redirects and was convieniently ignored. AM's that usually answer any other question I may have for them....it makes me soooo .

    I thought or had read somewhere that if you use base ref tag in the head i.e:

    <base href="http://www.yoursite.com/" />

    it protects you from pr thieves, but I may be incorrect. I have it on my sites.

    I am having the same problem with my sites.

    In fact, with the "Bourbon" update, my site now get 10% of the previous traffic it used to get before the may update. But if I search for the name of my site, the spammer have 50 - 100+ listings above and below my main website.

    If they have your content on their sites, draft up a DCMA letter and send it to their webhosting service and watch the pages disappear real quick.

    How to dodge scraper-spammers
    I saw this last night, but wanted to be more awake before I typed anything substantial. I've had success at stopping some of my sites from being scraped. It's w*rkful, so they're not all protected yet (I usually do some test-cases before spreading any w*rkful thing to all of my sites), but I will be going through the rest of them soon.

    In fact, with the "Bourbon" update, my site now get 10% of the previous traffic it used to get before the may update. But if I search for the name of my site, the spammer have 50 - 100+ listings above and below my main website.
    Not sure about the 302 part, but I've had the problem I quoted above, with some sites.

    I've also cleared this problem from a couple of sites. And, I'm going to be getting out the industrial floor-scrubbing machine to clear it from some of my mother's sites, which we found out the other day are absolutely infested with scraper dupes in the SERPs.

    First: There's no quick fix (that I know of). It takes ages for the engines to clear all that trash away, ages for all the spammers to update their sites (sans the snippet from yours), etc.

    The first step (the easiest part) is to start BANNING like crazy! Basically, if it ain't Googlebot, MSNbot, Yahoobot, or Archive.org ban it. That ESPECIALLY includes minor little SEs you would think of as legit but don't seem to send much traffic. That's where a lot of scrapers are getting their snippets from. Disappear from there, and you start to wash off these spammers pages...and you don't lose any real traffic either.

    If anything you don't want ignores your robots.txt, IP ban it in .htaccess. It may take several updates of your .htaccess to catch all the IPs. (Yep...some of them do spider sites directly. And listening to robots.txt, as you can guess, isn't in the plan...)

    Step 2: The w*rkful part: CHANGE your spin around so it's not the same as in the snippets anymore. That's a simple dup-content penalty dodge. Which works. Change the spin a bit every 2 weeks/month or so, so anything they do manage to scrape is obsolete soon.

    EVENTUALLY (could be months...) Google will begrudingly start sending traffic again...

    <base href="http://www.yoursite.com/" />
    I haven't tried that yet, but it doesn't look like it could hurt. Might as well add it in!
