I noticed that on some coupon site the affiliate links are hidden by what seems to be a number, that link to the affilite link, and ultimately the merchants website. What is this technique? How is it done?(custom programming or readily avaiable software). Any help would be appreciated, it seems to me that this is one on the "best practices" used the top sites. I would like to use the technique, but I need the expert advice I know that I will recieve here.

Probably the most simplistic way to do it is to have a database with each row containing a unique number and a links. Then, send your traffic through a CGI page (like that extracts the unique number, looks up the link, and redirects.

There are even more possibilities when all details about all of your coupons or bargains are in a database.

I would definitely agree that it is a best practice, as it provides a tremendous amount of flexibility.
