    Question www.google.com/webhp
I've been seeing this url in one of my site's referral lists. It's not sending considerable traffic, but it's a lot more than I normally get from Google. What is it? Does anybody know? Is this traffic legitimate or some sort of bot?

    Google it

"Google Suggest" seems to be the most associated with that directory, but without all the trailing variables, it defaults back to Google.com.

Even when searching through /webhp the results don't use that URL. I just can't see how this URL is in my referer field.

    Snib,

It's not a bot. It's google suggest, which I find useful for mining additional keywords that are for sure used on google and also to see how many competing websites on google for that keyword/phrase.

Though I don't use it for search, probably some people do.

    *checks*
    Hmmm

The only thing I can think of now, is if someone using GoogleSuggest hits the "I feel lucky" button and you're #1 under whatever term they checked. That may send the person straight over from /webhp without any other redirects.

I looked into this further and the actual referring URL is this:

    http://www.google.com/webhp?ie=iso-8859-1&lr=lang_en

It seems like the same class C IP address is always coming to my site with that referer. They load a random page on my site and nothing else. They just take the HTML, no images and no further clicks. I'm starting to think this is some sort of bot or program. What's strange is there's no indication that it's a bot. They're even using Mozilla:

    Mozilla/4.04 [en] (WinNT; I)

I'm totally baffled on this one. It seems like I'm getting traffic from Google, but it's worthless traffic that doesn't care about purchasing or even what's on my site. It seems to be the same person every time and they visit several times a day consistently.

    Weird!
