    I Didn't Realize.....
.....that giving out a business card at an Industry 'event' equaled opting in to your email list.

I guess there are always those who will muck a good thing.

Now, now Kellie. That makes just as much sense as a merchant selling your email address. We have a merchant (don't know who it is yet) that sold our email address to someone in BocaRaton, FL who thinks spamming me with every offer available is the thing to do. And it's done to an email address that is only given when I sign up on affiliate programs and not published on the web anywhere.

Just goes to show you that you can't trust anyone with your email address any more.

Yep. Kind of makes wanted communications difficult doesn't it? OTOH, it shows true colors.

But here's a bit of a clue. If I was interested in your virtual trade show, I'd engage you. OTOH when I receive spam from you, you immediately fall into my blacklist to never do business with.

What kind of emails was he/she sending you? Offers?

Business cards are meant for contacting people by which ever contact method is listed(phone/email/fax etc.). Although, it sounds like he wasn't contacting you on a personal level and just spamming offers which is very annoying, and definatly not the reason you would hand out a business card.

I noticed in the classifieds section of the weekly AdBumb that is sent out there is an ad that says "Purchase all the contact info for over 10k people that attended Ad:Tech this year.... blah blah". I'm sure none of those people realized thier information would be sold to the industry the week after they attended Ad:Tech.

Exactly! That's why you need spam filters!

To think someone would take the time to intentionally take business cards so they can spam them in the future.

Moral of the story... Adwhores are perverted by a steady diet of spam.

I carry 2 different versions of my business cards, each easily grabbed independently.

    A) My name, email address, phone number.
    B) My nick and an email address I don't use much, that can be easily changed.

    and there's always

    C) oops! I can't believe I forgot my cards!

Don't contact me, I'll contact you. If you're a friend, the nick is all you need anyway.

I kinda pride myself on not using business cards. I have some to promote my local web sites. I leave them in restaurants etc. but I don't have any to promote me as an affiliate. I can understand that they are important to AMs and Kellie and others like her.

There is one person that immediately jumped to mind as being low enough to do that when I read your post.

Is one of this person initials "S"?
