    Question Math and Webmerge?
Hey All - Does anyone know if WebMerge can do simple math functions?

i.e. Generating a "Save $25.03" by saying price minus sale_price type thing?

I've been trying to figure it out and I can't find the correct syntax (if it even exists)

    Thanks all!

    Matt,

You probably need to add a new column with that value in it if you're going to be using webmerge. Could do this with excel if need be.

Yes, that's true. I was hoping to avoid that since it would have to be re-done every week, but that's probably the best option. Thanks Scott.

Haven't tried it, sounds like something worth following up on.

Indeed it does. If you could list the sort of math functions you'd find handy I'll be happy to see what I can do to add support for those.

For my purposes, Field A less Field B = Field C and also
(FieldC/FieldB)*100 would give you the savings as a percent.
    With this, we could say:

    Retail: $20
    Our Price: $15
    You Save $5
    That's a 25% savings

I do this on several sites and have to set it all up on the import document. If WM could do it that would save me a lot of time.

Interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll see what I can do to come up with a WM-Calc tag....

Richard - I agree with Scooter. Some sort of way to calculate discounts would be great. It'd also be great to be able to give a total price type thing.

Sale Price - 5% (a special coupon maybe) + Shipping Fee = Total Price
    You Save: xxxx

Anyway, adding that sort of functionality would take web merge to the next level.

Of course the server side edition will do that too

    Thanks Richard

This is exactly what I need too. Simple calculations. I was going to make a new post, but hopefully this will bump this old discussion to the top.

Here's an example of what I need it to do:

    [WM-Field: Price -10%] (or something)
would calculate the "Price" field minus 15%

    or
    [WM-Field: Price -10] (or something)
would take $10 off the value in "Price"

Any way to do this, or to add the functionality into a future version of WebMerge?

I think we need to work out some straightforward syntax, but the suggestion is a very good one.

In addition to math we should also provide formatting for currency and percentages, as we currently do for dates.

Beyond discounted percentages, what other math functions would be useful for you?

Just anything where it can calculate, given a fixed number/percentage, or interaction with value from another field would be nice (e.g. FieldA plus FieldB)

The simplest thing where it would benefit me the most right now would be to simply deduct a set amount from the price of an item (e.g. FieldA minus 10)

Other math functions that would be useful? None that I can think of, so long as you can make it so that it can do the above items, all math would fall in with it. Standard calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
