Maybe, but I wouldn't swear to it. When a telemarketer called and I asked him to take me off the list, he gave me that address. The logos look funny to me.

Looks "phishy" to me... I would think a real industry site wouldn't use Domains by Proxy. Unless I got a link from somewhere like a real, confirmed, credit-reporting agency site (or other really trustable source), I wouldn't put my info in there...

You get 404 with http://optoutprescreen.com. You have to put www. Seems pretty unprofessional.

    Used to be registered to:

That was in May... back in April it was registered to:

    Registrant:
    Consumer Data Industry Association
    1090 Vermont Avenue, N.W.
    Suite 200
    Washington, District of Columbia 20005
    United States
That ties it in with cdiaonline.org - but it's odd that they changed the registration like that. The site looks sloppy and amateurish though which makes me feel that not everything is as it seems...

If you are referring to snail mail, there is no such registry, per se. But, you can fill out a card at your local US Post Office to have them essentially block 3rd Class mail - the method by which junk mail is usually delivered.

Regarding credit card and insurance solicitations: "Beginning August 1, 2005, companies that send “prescreened” solicitations of credit or insurance to consumers will be required to provide simple and easy-to-understand notices that explain consumers’ right to opt out of receiving future offers, the FTC says."

For the National Do Not Call Registry - supersedes state's efforts:

    Hope this helps.

Their privacy policy says that they have joint ventures with following well known companies,
Equifax Information Services, LLC, Experian Information Solutions, Inc., Innovis Data Solutions, Inc., and TransUnion, LLC .
You can call one of these companies to make sure if they are real or not.

The spamming front you listed buys & sells e-mail and physical addresses and privacy info. These Credit rating services feed the telemarkets -direct mailers and e-mal spammers. This year alone those not content to pay for lists have hired "data safe" crackers to just steal the info where ever it resides.

    Experian = Serious Spammer/Telemarketer

They call me monthly to "update my record" and I usually have some fun with them unless I am busy, then I just hang up on them.
