Sorry just checking in now - yes it was pretty bad but nice to know no major injuries and NO fatalities!

I actually live/work in the greater Toronto Area and though our city is QUITE spread out, the smell from that fire could be noted from one end of the city clear to the other believe it or not.

I remember leaving my place to go pick up the hubby as I was home that day, and the traffic was HORRIBLE as the portion of the hwy by the airport had been closed for some reason (to stop spectators perhaps?) so I sat in gridlocked traffic for about an hour, inhaling fumes from the fire. I hoped it would fade as I drove East, in the direction AWAY from the event at hand.

No such luck- I could smell electrical fire (burning electrical parts - not a nice smell) all the way to his work on other side of city and by the time I was heading back West in direction of the airport, it faded.

How's that for useful info? HAHA Thought it was interesting anyhow - who knew the smell of a burning airplane could travel so far?
